Here's a fun little video from Saturday's rallycross I've participated in (finished 3rd in Stock AWD). A friend's girlfriend jumped in the passenger's seat and had the time of her life with me and my friend Todd behind the wheel  Enjoy:

Looks like fun. What sort of car was that, and did it belong to the place where you drove? I was interested in the mounting point for the harness- and the fact that one of the drivers was not wearing it properly. If you mount the harness using the rear seat seat belt mounting points on the floor, the rear seat- at least the part you sit on, needs to be removed. It was interesting that the handbrake was not used, and is located where you'd mount it if the car was RHD.

I watched Rallycross on ESPN yesterday, it was awesome!
I had no idea what some of those little cars were, but it sure looked like a blast.

My 2000 2.5RS GC (GM6) ;) Regarding the harness: it works for the autocross and rallycross events and passes tech, but it's not mounted "right". The lap belts are mounted to the seat belt bolt and the seat rail bolt. The shoulder straps are joined to a HD climbing carabiner which is hooked to the lap belt in the rear. And the harness is actually a 5 point, but I don't have the crotch strap mounted. I know, not a greatest setup, but it works for what i do ;) The car is also my daily driver and occasionally my kids sit in the back so the harness needs to be easily removable.

And the event was SCCA's rallycross (not the new, European version ;) ). It's just like autocross (Solo) or gymkhana, but on dirt - timed solo runs through a temporary course with cone penalties. Good and cheap fun :bcool:

We do similar events on a wet skidpan, and used to do it on dirt as well- we call them motorkhanas. I'd suggest evryone give this a go as it is most enjoyable. Interesting though we need neither helmets nor harnesses for the skidpan. These are of me in my Impreza:

Maybe we should have an ORS skidpan or dirt day!

I think you are lucky to be able to run that harness set up- it would not pass here. We remove the rear seat- 3 bolts- when uing a harness. Even that is not ideal as it imposes a degree of spinal compression in a big impact, and the longer the strap the more stretch there is. Some believe stretch is a good way of absorbing impact, but it is a trade off of stretch ve impacting the wheel, etc.

She's a beauty!! I know what color my next one should be, that's hot!

Yea, motorkhana looks like fun, and I'd definitely like to try it someday. We have the americanized version of it (solo) which basically imitates a short race track and allows for higher speeds. I'll do it all though. If there's a potential for legal fun in a car, I'm there (i've done 3-4 autocrosses, 6-8 rallycrosses, and 6-8 ice races with my car so far since I got it last May). Speed is addicting

The next one up speed wise for us is called khanacross, where you can get into 3rd gear, whereas in motorkhanas you are normally in 1st and 2nd gear- sometimes only 1st. I have issue with navigation- I never know which witches hat to trun around, which way I turn and on which side I do it. That's when I need a good navigator!

Now that looks like it was a heap of fun :woohoo:
I think the smile on the passenger says it all

So Damo- why not give it a go in your Forrie!

Not a huge fan of cone racing (crap memory) but I went out to watch a mate and there was a vacant spot so I lifted the wheel carrier off and gave the WRX a run, it surprised a few people lol.

Your mates girlfriend looks like fun :iconwink:

I'm the same as you- terrible memory so my navigation is woeful. That is why I have a navigator!

I was thinking the same thing the whole time I watched the video.

Question is; How long till she gets behind the wheel??? And when she does, how much is she gonna' kick y'all's butts by???:iconwink:

Let's hope she does. Just as well the days of the blokes being embarrassed about being beaten by a girl are gone. One of the girls in the WRX Club won a skidpan day like you saw on my video and we were delighted for her. She had been getting better and better and finally she won. You see, when the girls are doing well they don't complain about you doing it. So, get them involved, and when they do well and enjoy it you know that the next event will be all go!

I don't know, but it'd be great if she did jump in the driver's seat. The rallycross scene here needs more female drivers. None of that "I don't wanna get my nails dirty" stuff :rolleyessarcastic:
