When I first joined ORS it was mainly a forum visited by Australians. Since then, it has been most pleasing to see people join from all over the world. I think we all like to see each others travels, and help where we can with answers to questions. I have had to change my own signature to reflect that, and it would be easier if when people write their signatures, to include their state/province (where applicable) and country. Thoughts?

Does make it quite helpful when it comes to helping answer questions. Good idea. Plus, isn't like half Australias population in Sydney anyways
Have to admit i am quite envious of country that has a population less than my state of Texas. With all the wide open, untouched land there is in Texas(but locked behind fences), i can't imagine just how spread out everything must be.. Just like one big playground!

Sometimes it seems like the whole population is in Sydney. We have about a sixth of the population I think, but Melbourne is catching us. At the current rate their population will overtake Sydney's. They're welcome to it! There are huge areas of Australia which is either military land or where white Australians are forbidden to enter without permits. So it's nowhere near as big a playground as you think it is.

Is this land kept for the Aborigines? So much white Australians or any Australians that are not Aborigines? I've never heard of this! This should be something good to read up on

and here i go hijackin threads again... Carl is gonna hang me! :mob:

Yes, it is Aboriginal land. Aboriginies make up approx 2% of the population. Ayers Rock and The Olgas are in this area.

Yeah I spent 6 months in the Pilbara desert living traditionally with the Martu Aboriginals. Required permits to enter the land. We were shooting a documentary and I had the best time of my life.

Being paid to drive the Canning Stock Route...sure was good :D

Thats not a bad idea actually :)
You can also put where you are in your profile too :) At least thats what I've done anyway :iconwink: so people know where I'm at

Gee I'm hopeless. I said signature. I meant to say profile. Thanks Damo- glad you're on the ball!

:bananagunner::bananagunner::bananagunner: J/K!!! In this case, it's Rally's thread and he played right along so hijack permitted.:iconwink: It's really not too often that a hijacker gets a flogging. Unless the thread starter complains, or the hijack is something that really deserves it's own thread then it's usually left alone. It's often that the thread starter takes part in the hijack, and I'm even guilty of it too sometimes.

Profile, yes. And any member is welcome to point it out, especially to new members, to add it to their profile. It is most helpful, and it's just nice knowing where folks are at. We used to have little flags that you could put in your profile, that was cool, but I don't think we have that option with the new v-bulletin set up.

Yes, I helped hi-jack my own thread. Again! Back on topic, it is nice to know where people are from, but some abbreviations, whilst known to locals, can be obscure to others. While I think it is fair to say that "USA" is an abbreviation everyone knows, the abbreviations of states or provinces may not on its own tell us which country. I think one example was WA. Is that a US state or an Australian state? I did not know there was a US one and assumed it was the Australian one. It was not. Or SA- is that the state of South Australia or the country South Africa?

...So it's nowhere near as big a playground as you think it is.

And a large chunk of this playground is flat anyway!

As for population don't get me started!!! Spot the aussie?!

I'm about to go and update my location as I've moved and will be again in just under 2 weeks!

Cheers

Bennie

I think this is a valid point, and I have changed my state abbreviation and spelled it out. As far as WA, goes, y'all have one down there, we have two here. The state of Washington, and Washington DC, District of Colombia which is the US's capital and not a state, just to confuse matters more...
