Hi, I was looking into getting some driving lights and was wondering if they can be mounted onto the bush guard its for a 98 Forester.

Or if there are any other alternatives don't think the light bar you can get a supercheap will work with the bush guard but correct me if i'm wrong.

Cheers.

You can do both. Jason Tincey on here has put a unibar with lights on the front of his nudge bar. But it did get quite damaged and I think broke off while offroading. You can also drill holes in the top of it and bolt them there that way.

On my 2001 I have fixed them to the grille which has worked out very well and looks really neat. They did wobble abit when on gravel roads but i just pushed some rubber tubing under the grill assembly and that solved the problem.

Thought about doing that, I was just concerned that there wouldn't be enough structural support in the guard itself given its only hard plastic and i don't think its completely solid too, especially when off road.

I was thinking about doing that with mine. But I removed my nudge bar. I like the look better without it. I know Dirty-ru has done it with his spot lights, mounted them to the top of the nudge bar and he said they hold well. But the bolts are done up tight.

Oh okay fair enough, how do you have yours fixed to the grill?, did you buy mounts or make them yourself?

G'day mickyg & :welcome: to ORS.
Also, filling in your location in your profile is a good idea too. It helps us to help you.

Perhaps you could fit them in a similar way as what mav did here custom light bar

I got the idea from Fedor (Fuze911) with his US Forester. This is how they are mounted.

Through the holes in the grill. No mounting brackets just the standard equipment that came with my spotties.

I've mounted mine on the stock brush guard that came on my forester & it's turned out great. No rattling or movent when off road or at high speeds. Only the top portion of the bar is hollow, the bottom section is about an inch thick. I had to get a longer bolt to accomodate the thicker bar, but that was it. Your bar also should have some little plastic caps on the backside, that when you pull them out, will reveal the hollowness. If you have something to pull the wires with, you can run them through there to hide them, like i did. I took the cap off the piece where the bar attaches to the bumper for the picture, but just ran the wires through there. You can snap the cap back on and it stays put.

**ah just noticed Taza's comment above. It basically just comes down to what you like & style. I was curious as to how they mounted on the grills, as i had thought about doing that at first.

Thanks dirtyRU, That really helped mate ill probably be going with that design it looks neat and tidy and didn't really want to get rid of the bush guard especially with all the roos about have almost hit too many already.

The plastic nudge/brush bar/guard is hollow in Australia, im not sure about the US. I know from removing mine its completely hollow. I can post a few pics to show you when I get home from work. It wont do much if anything if you hit a roo  If you want some protection get a roo bar or bullbar. The Subaxtreme ones are nice but expensive :(
Still it sounds like a good and easy to mount a set of spotties

Taza has a good point, other than looks and being a place to mount the lights, it's about useless. Not going to protect you from much of anything. Might give your bumper a bit more cushion for low impact situations, but thats it. The subaextreme stuff is awesome & i would love to have one, but like the man said.. $$$$$

My grille is different though being an MY00-MY02 rather than MY97-MY99.

This is my grille

And the red circles are where I put the bot and nuts through. Thats how mine are attached. Flush up against it, looks neat and you don't see any wires

I'm using a uni bar on the front of the stock brush guard, it's fine on road but on dirt they shake, a lot. I'm going to ditch it and the stock bar and replace it with an nudge bar.

Yeah it does seem that way that's why i was a bit concerned about the support mounting them straight on the guard, i did see another subaru yesterday same model as mine with the spottie's like tazas mounted in the grille looked nice n neat.
