Well I was replacing my brake fluid on the weekend and thought it a good idea to check how much material I had left on my brake pads. And guess what? Not much.

I seem to recall, from the old site some talk about pads, but that is as far as my memory goes.

What have others used? I was just going to get the OEM and fit them myself, but on second thoughts there must be better aftermarket products about.

Your thoughts and input would be greatly appreciated.

Per my recent PM:

I would run Red Stuff in front and Green Stuff in the rear. They didn't have any Reds when I replaced pads and installed slotted rotors so I got a TRW Lucas pad for the front which has the same heat rating as Reds. Braking response is great with this set up and not so much overheating on steep descents.

Just replaced my front pads, backs will need to be done shortly - got 105,000km from the fronts, maybe had 10,000 km of life left in them (maybe-just). For replacements, went with Bendix 4WD https://www.bendix.com.au/FourWD.aspx

Seem to have slightly better feel than the OEM IMHO.

Cheers

Good grief

How is this for price disparity... :furious:

Goods required:
One set of EBC Red Stuff - Front
One set of EBC Green Stuff - Rear

Pricing:
  1. $355
  2. $415
  3. $445
  4. $444
  5. $520 really! :rotfl:
  6. $405
You know, I am really starting to get the hump with people that try to rip the hard earned coin out of my back pocket.

The Bendix 4WD version were $AU70. Same price for fronts or rears. Careful when ordering the rear pads, some Foresters (and maybe other models) had short runs, eg. mine is a 2003 Forrie, rears are DB1379 rather than the more common models for years either side!

The people who service my 03 Forrie like to let you know whats coming up so no supprises at the next service. At one service the printed report said rear pads nearing the end of their life so I went and bought a set of Bendix DB1379GCT form my friendly brake store for about $75. I had a look at the pads when I was putting my off road tyres on and they were in good condition. mentioned this at the next service and the answer came back - opps we ment the front so I bought a set of Bendix DB1491/4WD from my friendly brake store for $75.

Still haven't fitted either pair but I'm ready for when I need to.

Cheers

Hey Kevin how long have you been running the Reds for?
I know a guy who put them in his GT with slotted rotors, wore them out in 15,000kms. They are awesome pads but obviously because they are a a race pad won't last as long as the standard type pads.

Talking about brakes, got all excited today thinking i'd be putting some new pads on (well my OH would be putting them on, i pass the tools). Took the caliper thing apart to find that i have STACKS of pad left, i've done just over 83000km in the MY04. How long have others got out of there brake pads? These are the original pads too...

In my Impreza I have done 74000 km's and I am on my third set of front pads and rotors and second set of rear pads. Mind you, I am also on my 4th set of tyres! But then this thing loves corners. (As do I)

Now on 3rd set installed @ about 95K - but wear depends on usage; Rally corners hard whereas I go offroad and, as mine is auto, I use brakes a lot on steep descents; driving through the brakes etc.

I think the originals are also a harder compound than, say, the Green Stuff I had all-round as my 2nd set.

I've done 63,000 k's on my original pads and they have only lost about 3mm of pad material. Mostly suburban driving with 4 or so trips to the snow per year.

Cheers

Grant
