Hey ORS Land,

I was wondering if anyone has tried to run 225/70R16's? Its a common Jeep size in the USA so their are lots of great tires choices. Not as many in a 215/70R16.

If I go with 35mm taller springs plus a 1 to 2 inch strut top lift could I fit 225/70R16's on without rubbing? Driving a 2005 Forester 2.5 XT.

Thanks,

Dean

You have to remember, here we go again :iconwink:, increasing spring height or adding blocks to the top of the strut does not increase the distance from the centre of the hub/wheel to the spring perch - this is your limitation. Have a look at your struts and you will see that from the bottom of the strut to the spring perch is one solid piece. Whatever gap you have between the top of your tyre and the bottom of the perch is all you can get without custom mods.

^^^ Yep, it's not like our typical trucks or jeeps you see around here that when you give yourself a block lift, it automatically allows bigger tires. Not the case on a forry. That would be waaaay to easy & cheap ;)

pretty much the biggest tire you can fit with absoletly no problem (on a forry w/ 16" rims) is the 215/65/16. Your A/T choices dwindle to yoko geolander at/s and the general grabber at2 (looks like a bfg a/t, but better lifetime mileage rating)

Tire Question?

Thanks guys for the feed back. Looks like I still have some good choices in the available sizes that will get around well.

I'm running BFGoodrich All-Terrains in the 215/70 16 size with no problems. There is slight rubbing up against the inner fender liner in the front at full lock, but nothing that a dremel can't take care of.

The 225's I'm not sure about, but someone over at sf.org said they fit 225/75 16's on his Forester without modification and they fit fine. Have NO idea how, or even what they look like, but I have my doubts.

Best way to find out is to ask a tire shop that you trust on a slow day to mount a 225/70 tire to one of your wheels to see if they'll fit on the front and rear. As long as it fits the perch, and doesn't rub crazily up against the front at full lock, you should be good.

Hey Blue Fox,

Good to here from you. I've admired some of your 4 wheel'n videos. You are definitely taking your Forester to the edge.

I was hoping to find a Dick Cepek, Mickey Thompson or something like them but they don't even go 225 small. BFG's or General's should work good though. The General Grabbers come in 215/65R16 so I should give myself good wheel clearance and save some doe.

Keep set'n the pace,

Dean
