forester kangaroo's can grow to over 2m (also known as eastern gray in other states)
im pretty sure thats a wallaby there, not a full on roo. sorry to disappoint

drive it at night with some spotlights to see some really big beasts ;)

Never seen an Eastern Grey at 2 metres. Certainly some reds at that size. Most roos aren't that keen for you touch them- especially the aforementioned reds who will get most upset if you try. Only the tame ones let you get near- and it doesn't feel anything special.

Didn't want to pet one Rally but rather was wondering if the hide was good enough to tan and use. (clothing, rugs, etc.) Are they edible and if so what's the best way to cook them? Sorry for the confusion in my first reply. I'm learning to be more specific with comments and questions. Thanks for the response.

I've never eaten roo but those who have comment favourably. Can't help with cooking either. Most of the time I've come across roo meat it has been, um, well past it's use by date. Never seemed to bother the eagles though

Geez i forgot i had even posted this:The beasty in the picture is in all probability a Bennetts Wallaby.

As for roo meat its one of the healthiest you can eat and full of protein. The pelts have kept people warm for many thousands of years

Yeah Lonestar, when cooked right the kangaroo meat is great, cook it too long or slowly (can't remember if slowly was a problem) and you'll be chewing an old boot. No fat either!

Their fur would be great as seat cover! Probably best to go with the eastern greys as they've got a lot of hair that's soft to the touch.

Love roos, wish we ate more of them!

Cheers

Bennie

I used to love a good kangaroo steak, cooked rare, until....

Now i refuse to eat it!

No wonder- I don't eat meat either until it's been properly cooked- that rules out "rare". :)
