I know this thread has happended that many times but...... a few more times wont hurt :raspberry:

Alright, well last week I got 2 flat tyres (4 in the past month in total). At the present time my Foz is undrivable. I was planning on getting some A/T's but was waiting for my H/T's to wear out and to get new ones when I go to Perth for my lift (1 months time). But since I have a 7mm whole in one tire(which is unrepairable, already tried) and a ripped sidewall in the other I need some new shoes.

Standard size: 205/70R15

I was looking at 215/70R15 This way the spare will still fit in the wheel well. If the 215/75R15 would fit in the well I would get them in the BFG's.

I am trying to toss up on getting Dueler 694 in my standard size for $170 each or get the Geolander AT-S in 215/75R15 (probably around $220)

I need the new shoes this week and am going to get 5 done, keep my spare aswell (Dueler 693) and get another rim for the 5th tyre. Then I have 2 spares to use in the future.

I have heard both really good and horrible things about the Geolanders. which is abit off putting. Where as the duelers I know are an excellent tire. But I cant get either of the Dueler 693 or 694 in 215/70R15 only the standard size.

I do Probably 65/45, bitumen/offroad. I do heaps of beach driving(every 2nd day), quite abit of gravel and some rocks and ruts. Almost never mud or wet surfaces.

Can someone please give me some guidance?

Many Thanks
Taza

Big differences between gravel/rock and sand tyres- and of course tarmac. There is no way a tyre can do well in all of them. Sand tyres need to be softer in the sidewall and balloon out- not want a rock tyre wants at all. Difficult compromise

On the Geolandar A/T-S, I've also heard poor reviews, but they were always referring to the GO11, previous design of the tyre.

The GO12's that I've got in my car are pretty good, never had any issues with them and as far as grip, they are much better then the OEM G900's.

I got mine in 215/60R17, which is 1 size bigger than STD. Spare didn't fit the well, but after some careful bashing, it's all good!

Pedro.

Well im more after sand and gravel tire more than rocks. Is the Dueler good at this or would the Geolander AT-S be better.

I got some prices of tires today since im in desperate need for them.
The tires are going to have to be before my lift  and im gonna have to get them locally wich means lots of $$$.

Some prices in Geraldton, W.A.

Geolander AT-S
205/70R15 for $190 each
215/70R15 for $230 each

Bridgestone 694 A/T
205/70R15 for $169 each
215/75R15 for $300 each

BFG
215/75R15 for $350 each

I really want the Geolander AT-S in 215/75R15. But because im abit tight for cash I think im goinig to get the Geolander AT-S in 205/70R15. I know its standard size but they will still be an excellent tyre  or so im told by many people.

Good milage, little road noise, excellent grip offroad and on road. Just not too good in mud and snow but thats fine with me.

Probably getting them on Thursday or Friday

The rain here lately has prompted me to replace the gripless tyres (Coopers) that are on the car. I cannot believe how little grip the car has- even at moderate speeds the car simply understeers on entry and if you lift off at such low speeds the car is quite happy to hang the tail out. They are even worse than the standard Geolanders. With the possible exception of the tyres on a 1928 Chev probably the worst tyres I have ever driven on. I cannot afford dedicated offroad tyres so I will be going for a road tyres and will just have to deal with that when I go off road. Anyone need some tyres to mount on a wharf to protect their boat? Not sure they'd even be good at that.

$1400 for 4 BFG's!?! Now thats robbery no matter where the hell you're buying from. In America, that would be 1/4 of what your forester is worth!
You could buy 9 bfg's here for that price and still come out cheaper. I feel for you guys down there.....

By the way... The New Geo A/T-S have a 60,000 mile tread lifetime vs the 40,000 the bfg is rated for. On discounttire.com, the Geo even gets better reviews.

Well I bought my Foz mid last year for $10,750, with 119,000km (71,000miles). So $200 a tire is a good price for what my car is. Im willing ot pay around that. Im not willing to pay $300 each though.

$30,000 for a base model. Mine was $33,000 when it was brand new nearly 10 years ago. Mine is limited though, so in between base and GT.

Geez, that would explain why the resale is so much higher over there though. Does subaru have a manufacturing plant in australia? Just googled and found the price of a new 2.5x for just under $23k. Mine new, which was the top model in the US since we didnt have the nice GT's was around $27k. Interesting to see just how diff it is over there though.

I have decided on the Geo AT-S in 215/70R15 which are $229 each locally. Where as the 205/70R15 are $190 each locally. Im willing to pay 229 for 4 and $45 for a 4 wheel alignment.

Total price of $961. Thats over 2 weeks pay for me :( But if I get 50,000km from them and they are as good offroad as people say I will be extremely happy! :D

Booking it in tomorrow for Thursday (they have to come from Perth over night).

Cant wait for my lift too, in a month!!!! I feel like a kid at Easter time with heaps of chocolate. haha

One last question.
Im doing a Dobinson Spring lift (35mm)
I also want a strut lift. But should I go with 1inch or make the most of it and go with 2inch? Im thinking all out with 2" but I need another opinion or 2 or 3.

Thanks
Taza

That what i was getting at.. It sucks it costs so much over there when our currencies are pretty much dead on with one another. Don't know how you guys do it & still have $$ for yourselves

But we make more and our medicines and hospital bills are cheaper.

My family for example has private health cover. Late last year my mother was booked in for a knee replacement. It cost her $60 thanks to private health cover. Otherwise it would of been $20,000. But it does cost a few thousand a year for private cover for a family. Well worth it in my opinion though.

Wow I really got off topic there. haha

Spare a thought for the Poms- they've got it worse than us. What is frustrating is that we built the Monaro here and it sold for say $50,000. We then build a LHD version, put some different cosmetic bits on it and sell it in the US as a Pontiac and it cost a lot less than here. Not sure I'll ever understand that

I think I paid $42k for my MY05 Forry XT manual, drive away, which included a few extras, in late 2004 when I bought mine brand new.

That sounds about the right price.
I know I run mine in a different size, but I paid $215 a corner when I got my ones about 2-3 years ago.
If thats any help.
