Will a LSD from a 02-05 Forester (SG) fit in my 97-02 (SF) Forester? I went to my local wreckers yesterday and I can buy one from a 2003 Forester X that was rolled over. I can get the rear LSD from it for around $300. I know they are not great but it would have to be abit better than my open diff.

Also is the only option for lower gearing for my dual range gear box the scorpion low range gears? I want a better reduction that 20% but $1200 is a bit steep for me for the scorpion gears.

2 things need to be considered. ratios and rear axles. It will bolt in, although you may need to take the studs out of you old diff and use in the new one. With the axles, some have a male end that go into the rear diff. Others have the diff with a male end coming out. Should there be a problem there, you could try using the newer axles- if they are the same length. As for the ratios of the new vs old diff- I don't know.

I'm not sure if a std 2003 Forester X would have a rear LSD (?) I thought its was only fitted to higher spec models. Don't think my 2007 XT has a rear LSD, for instance...

Hi Taza
You can use a low range off an l-series i'm sure some one will do it for you for the money scorpion would charge for the gear set.
It is a big job you have to pull the whole gearbox down and add some bits and change some bits. There is some info on other forums about it i wouldn't do it if you don't now what you are doing. Saying that it is the best mod you can do on a Subie if you go off road often.
