:)Guys, I need some help from members who enjoy off roading but also like boating. I plan to do some of both.
Of course, I need a trailer hitch but I don't want it to screw up my off roading because of its position. So for my purposes, I need to know if there is a wrong way to install the hitch. Or is there a better way? I just don't want it to become an obstruction and ruin what should have been a good day off road. I will not be doing the install myself, but will convey your words to the mechanic. I plan to have this done in 3 weeks. Thanks for your help! challis

Hayman Reece 2" sq. hitch, mounted as per OEM. Gen 4 Outback is within the profile of the rear bumper. Gen 3 is below. Not sure about the Forie. I tow my camper on forest tracks with no probs.

Thanks for your help Barry! However, sorry I forgot to mention I have a 2011 Forester AT. My real concern is for when I go off road with out the boat attached. I want to make sure the newly connected hitch apparatus doesn't hang up when I travel up and down steep hills or through ruts. Thanks, challis

Usually the hitch itself can be removed from the tow bar frame by removing the "hitch pin" and sliding it out. Easy!

Ok, Kevin, so I guess then my concern is the install of the tow bar frame and its position when doing serious off road activity. Not the sliding hitch which is removable. Thanks, challis
