Hi All
The subaru club I am involved with drove along a dirt forestry track created by an early settler in West. Aust. near the Murray River. He owned 5,000 acres and needed to create a cattle track. We drove along that track - It is an easy to medium grade compact dirt and gravel with a some deep ruts and holes in places.
The first stop was of course, a bakery for coffee and morning tea. From there we travelled along some small sealed roads through farming and mining area's. There is a 50 km conveyor taking bauxite to a refinery.
The Captain Fawcett track was a single lane dirt and gravel road. The group stopped at both disused railway bridges along the way and at a nice clearing by the river for lunch. The whole trip took about 8 hours. This included driving to the prearranged meeting place, traveling in convoy to the start of the track and home again.
I really enjoyed the low range range gear box. Yes I did change gears more frequently but I was able to keep the rev's down to about 1200 rpm for most of the track. We were on the track itself for 4hours (including lunch). The fuel efficiency was great (about 8-9km/L). It was a nice relaxing day I will upload some photo's.
