Subaru have now released their new range of engines in Oz- as we expected at face value there does not seem to be any big leap forward. I can only see them catching up with everyone else- but time will tell. Of more interest is the new Forester S now has the latest 193Kw WRX engine it. Unfortunately, it is only available in 5 speed auto form. Maybe I'm being a bit tough, but please excuse me whilist I go back to sleep.

Where did you find the info? Was there any mention of an auto box for the diesel?

Regards,

Joel

I wouldn't be too hasty looking at a diesel Joel, the current models are beginning to have shudder problems.

So, here is the problem.

2010 Diesel Outback. The problem happens in a high gear. 4th, 5th or 6th and on an incline , even a gentle one, at about 1900 to 2300rpm.

When the shudder starts, it starts slowly and builds until the whole car shakes. To do this it needs the incline to be long and continuous. If the road crests over and the load on the engine is removed, the shudder will subside.

The other way to get the shudder to stop is to change down to at least 4th.

The dealer is being really good and trying to help me out as much as possible. They are as perplexed as I am. The user "Doubtback" is also getting the same problem. The car feels like it has the torque to give, however the shudder (that will make your teeth chatter if you push it) makes you back off.

A new car shouldn't behave like this, and my service centre agrees.

It was on our WRX Club forum. Forum rules do not allow me to post it here, but there was no mention of an auto diesel. It's probably on Subaru's website anyway. I wonder how widespread this vibration issue is.

Can anyone confirm whether there is a problem with 3 Foresters in One Garage. I can't see one at all.... (sent the link to dad who is living in Europe currently, will be back next year, but his car gets replaced in September, unless we extend the lease for a few months until he returns here fully, and the S-Edition grabbed his interest. even with it being auto only )

No diesel auto as yet. My only complaint from the whole update is Auto only for S Edition, but I could probably get used to that if I had one. The torque increase probably isn't as much as I would have hoped, but even the difference between my '05 and mum's 09 is significant - Power meh, torque is more important for most of the driving I do.

Ah that's news to me about the diesel shuddering. I am not looking soon. When I run my current forester into the ground maybe in a couple (hopefully even a few) hundred thousand km, I might see how the diesels go then.

Joel

why would you want a auto anyway? probs or not autos are boring and you know they might be better on hills but if you need an auto to get up a hill its gonna be a boring drive :raspberry::lol:

On the way home from work today I popped in to Tom Kerr at Ryde to see if they had any MY11 Foresters, just to see what it looks like compared to the MY10.
The only had one there & it was the S-Edition :raz: I must say it looked like a very sweet ride indeed. :woohoo:
Pity they only come in an auto. :sadbanana:

Mr Turbo

You all know that Subaru has stopped making the EJ engines. Right? I think the new one in the MY11 models are FB. The EJ has been around for 30 years. It was an amazing engine and we will all miss it.

EJ still in Turbo Subarus. Will miss the EJ - Had 3 EJ25's (MY02 RS impreza, and 2 Foresters) and an EJ20 (MY98/9 Impreza Sportswagon)

Oh. Ok my mistake. Good.

Yeah, 'tis good news. I thought the FB was replacing all EJs. Is it me, or is the new Forester powered by Facebook? :p

I noticed that too.... lol

When comparing the EJ25 in the MY10 Forester to the FB25 in the MY11 Foz I noticed the power and fuel are the same but there is about 10Nm more torque and its about 1 second faster from 0-100. This was the base model, M/T. Thats a good start.

Yeah - more torque is always good! In most of the driving I do outright power isn't really important. Crawling along Epping road at 6pm, and then getting through the Beecroft sidestreet hills to where I live require torque.

I require a decent road network but living in NSW I know that's is just a dream....:)

I want the boxer diesel engine. 350Nm is enough for me. And 108kW is enough as well with the excellent fuel economy. I wish I could have that engine in a MY05 XS Lux body shell. lol. With 4inch lift(2body, 2 suspension), M/T with scorpion low range gears, Subaxtreme Bullbar and sumpguard, light force 170 stricker spotties, Rhino rack roof racks, etc... Thats my deam car. lol

I was going to say how much I'd like an Aston Martin DB9 or Lamborghini Gallardo, but the funny thing is I think from what I have seen of just about everyone's cars is we can all be pretty happy with what we've got. I have had great joy in both my 2 Foresters and my Impreza. You could really enjoy having either one, so perhaps I'm even more delighted to have both. With the Forrie, I plan to leave it pretty standard. I'd like a sump guard, and if the budget permitted a bullbar and rear bar as well. But I'm happy to keep the Forrie otherwise standard and enjoy the challenges that doing this presents. The more capable I make it, the number of places I can go to present me these challenges diminishes. Yes, perhaps the diesel would be a better option-but then I think of something like a Toyota Camry- and that sends a shiver down my spine with these extremely reliable but utterly boring, sensible cars and realise that with the Forrie I'm on to something just as reliable and sensible but far more enjoyable.

^^ So very true.Although thats my dream car, within my range (not like a DB9 or V8 Vantage) in 5+ years, I am still very happy with my foz. And with it being almost stock it really is suprising with what it can do. It also makes challengers and adventures more interesting and makes you a better and more skilled driver as you have to work on your skills to acomplish the same tasks that landcruisers find easy.

Lastly the look on people faces who have spend $60,000+ on kitting up an offroad vehicle when a stock Subaru can still get to the same place. Its priceless :raspberry: Pretty amazing cosidering mine has open diffs, only 184nm of torque, AWD (so its not a real 4WD and not designed for offroad as my dad says) and 200mm clearance. Yet it still will go most places and you can usually tell when it wont due to the special bond of subaru magic a owner has with their car  I love it.

I wouldnt have a commmodore over my foz anyday.

I wouldnt have a falcon over a Subaru anyday.
Fixed for truth!

Couldn't have said it better Rally, particularly the bit in bold. Until I can have my dream cars (either Audi Quattro, original or the new one one if it gets built, or Audi RS4 Avant) I'll be sticking with the Subies!
