I'm having a lot of trouble finding what I would consider simple parts for my '82 Brat GL. For example, it has the factory Hitachi carb and I snapped the wire to the anti-dieseling solenoid. I further tried to disassemble it and destroyed it more, and I would prefer not to solder a wire to the base, but just get the part new. I have tried all the local auto parts stores. Any suggestions?

Okay, I guess I was calling it by the wrong name. I was using the "How To Keep Your Subaru Alive" part name, but it's actually an "idle stop solenoid". That being said, found a few on E-bay that look close to it. Anyone know if one made for an '87 Hitachi carb will fit an '82? Mine's a single wire, and the picture shows single wire for that year.

A better question: How does one find the OEM part # for all these parts?

Can't help with the part # other than suggesting you try SOA. Someone on www.AUSubaru.com might be able to help, as there is a lot of knowledge about the Brumby (Ausie Brat) on that forum.

However, can I suggest that your thread name would be better as Brat carbi parts, and then talk about the specifics in the post, as that is likely to attract members who might have similar, or could suggest an alternative replacement.

Okay, I'm not sure of the actual function, but I imagine it's called by either name. Anyway, for the time being, can I just keep the plunger in (shimmed or whatever) and drive the darn thing without the wire?

Thread title modified for clarity

Going to answer my own question (hopefully, correctly?): Turns out, the coil within the ADS does not heat up and expand while the car is running as I thought (which would push the plunger out into the carburetor), rather, when the car is on, it electro-magnetizes it, bringing the plunger in. Basically, I should be able to run the car without it, other than it will lack the anti-dieseling properties. Does this sound about right?
