A few days ago, I spotted a prime specimen of the rare and elusive West African Forester, in yellow taxi livery. The picture below shall provide proof!

This is the first spotting where I actually happened to have my DSLR on hand. Although the picture doesn't show the hood scoop, it was indeed the Boxer Diesel!

The taxi was pumping gas when I spotted it. But by the time I'd crossed an intersection to question the driver, he was already rushing away. Next time I will hopefully get the full scoop. Insha'Allah, as they say here.

Hey, I'd pay significantly more than market rate to ride in one of these Boxer Diesel Fozza taxis. All other taxis are old Renaults and Peugeots made up of recycled and spare parts, and are barely roadworthy.

As far as I can tell, there are at least one Forester, one Legacy/Liberty wagon, and one Legacy/Liberty sedan, operating here in Dakar, each with the Boxer Diesel. Judging by the sticker on the back window, they're operated by some sort of promotional agency. As to what they are promoting, I have no idea!

If they were promoting Subaru, why do it only with taxis? If they are promoting something else, why not just use regular taxis, like Romanian Dacia, German Volkswagen, or Iranian Khodro? Hopefully I'll be able to corner one of the taxi drivers in the coming months, and find out exactly what the deal is.
