anyone heard of it before??

my father in law has been telling me about trap rock for over 20 years ground that normally as solid as rock , once wet enough just swallows a vehicle , like quick sand for cars

was up at the inlaws place over christmas ( warwick ) and got flood bound , but the biggest challenge was getting out of their driveway (approx 3ks down the side of a mountain )

after 3 solid days of rain it stopped and the trapped decided to make a run for it.
6 cars in convoy and i just happened to be in front. about half way down i came to a set of washouts about 3 ft at its widest and 5 ft at its deepest ( not there 3 days ago on the way up)

not wanting to slip in or have the side collapse under me i gave it a wide berth and had my left hand wheels just off the track .

worked well till the car just sunk to the sills , it didnt spin just dropped into what looked like and had the consistency of a maccas chocolate thick shake, both wheels dropped the full travel of the suspension
heres a pic (dont laugh at my hat)

dosnt look much but that was where i was stuck

got pulled out by a sierra  who also got stuck but we could lift out
but this stuff was bizarre , we en-counted several more pockets before we got out and a few of the others got bogged (not me again) sometimes the front wheels would go over and the rears would drop
took us about 2 hours to get all 6 cars to the front gate
pics of washout and some of the runoff from their property

the funniest part was that we made it into town only to be stuck there for another day:lol:

sorry for the long post , but this stuff blew me away if you coundnt get around it you just had to floor it and hope for the best , didnt always work

Thats looks like an interesting adventure just to get to the road  Oh well at least you all got out and least you were not by yourself and stuck.

I heard on the news that the floods in Queensland are bigger in area than NSW. And when you consider trhat NSW is just under 810,000 square km's in size, that is a lot of floodwater. Pleased you got out- sounds like a bit of adventure. But my thoughts are for the Queenslanders- drought, flood- can't seem to take a trick.

That's some driveway your inlaws have got :poke:
Glad you made it out

Regards
Mr Turbo
