I wanted to share an app I stumbled across recently whilst searching for some 1:25000 maps of Qld.
The ap is called Mobile Atlas Creator. It can be found at https://sourceforge.net/projects/tr...BAC 1.8/Mobile Atlas Creator 1.8.zip/download
The basic deal is you draw a square around the area you want a map of and it creates a .map & a .png which I then convert to .ozfx3 for OziexploreCE.
Its pretty awesome.
A few tips......
Dont get too greedy... Pic a realistic area. Play around a bit. You need to select the output format.
Also, the maps I suggest you set your Map Source to OpenStreetMaps Cyclemap. The roads and trails arent that accurate but the topo is pretty good. If you are going to plot trips based on existing trip notes and gps info then its perfect. Gives you a good view of the lay of the land.
Also, the most consitent and usable result for me is by using a zoom level of 14 but play around and see whatyou can get. The higher the zoom the more data it needs and the longer it takes. I found that the resutlant .png was unusable above 16 and more than often depending on how much area I tried to cover above 15.
The general process is as follows...
Select an area.
Select Map Source. (I suggest OpenStreetMap Cyclemap for topo data)
Select Zoom Level. (I suggest 14 but give it others a go)
Add Selection to Atlas Content (Hit the Add Selection button and it will appear in the Atlas Content box)
Tweak any settings like directories etc...
Create Atlas.....
The result is good for Ozi but use 'Image to Ozi' for a CE usable result.
Here's a squiz at a map I cacked up..... This is about an 8th of the full image and is not zoomed right in. The detail gets clearer as the zoom increases, obviously every image has its limits but its very very usuable.
Then just go ahead and load it into Ozi and plot away ready for your next dirty weekend
