Anyone installed any hood vents in their Suby lately???

I want to give the heat an extra escape route from my Foz mounted n/a H6.....

Pics???

Maybe an intercooler scoop installed backwards will do the trick - and any water would just wash over it.

I'm debating the same thing at the moment. If & when I get a larger bonnet scoop (at Xmas) I was thinking that I might add a couple of bonnet vents while I'm at it. Not quite sure yet though.

Regards
Mr Turbo

I think you'd need to add snorkel heads to your vents Damian! ;-)

Yes, I do. Put them in the same spot as the 1999 WRX's bonnet vents - just behind the radiator.

One option would be to put some spacers between the bonnet and the hinges. A few flat washers would do the trick- and perhaps longer bolts. This would allow a natural flow of air and a path for air to escape. WRX style bonnet vents might help as an alternative, but to fit properly you will need to put a lip on the bonnet for it to be a flush fit. The WRX bonnet has this lip stamped into the panel. But the WRX has not had vents since the MY00- was that a styling or engineering decision? Of course, you could do what Dellsfozz has done and use another style.

That setup looks sweet.

What are the smaller lights mounted on the roof? I'm looking to something similar but I am also looking for a lower profile light for in front of the grill to increase airflow into the grill.

Rumour has it rear facing vents are illegal.....????

Any info....??

How about venting the sides of the engine bay and letting the air flow into the wheel arches?

Or, even, put some 12V extractor fans in there.

Thanks guys :)
Before I cut the holes for the vents I tried the old style "hinge spacers" to lift the rear of the bonnet. I used 10mm spacers but also needed to remove the rubber seal at the rear of the bonnet to exit hot air. After i took this rubber seal out my bonnet, I had all the hot air going inside the cabin if i want fresh air and also had a fair bit of vibration because the MY06 Foresters have an aluminium bonnet, plus i had extra weight because of my big bonnet scoop and splitter.

Also didnt like the look of the rear of the bonnet lifted,

As for the legalities, ive heard that reversing the bonnet scoop (literally turning an intercooler scoop around) due to the danger of having oil splashing into your view (windscreen). However I dont think this applies to bonnet vents though; some cars (Evo, old WRX) come out from factory with bonnet vents so wouldnt be able to ban this.

The smaller lights mounted on my roof rack are just 50W lights from SuperCheap. Not a sufficient light output and i think theyre not suitable for the roof because all they do is light the bugs flying into them. These will be coming off soon and will be used as reverse spotlights and I'll be replacing them with 4 more rectangular Narva Ultima 115/160's like the ones on the bullbar. Those ones on the bullbar used to be mounted in front of the grill but relocated them to increase the airflow.

Firstly..... I really love this car mate.

Did you notice any significant imporvement in cooling/airflow after installing the hood vents?

Secondly... have you had the car rego'd including a roadworthy since installing the hood vents? Word on the street is that its illegal to have rear facing vents incase a hose blows etc....

Thirdly...
I dont wanna OT this post mate so is there any chance you could post some info in a fresh post say in the electrical area regarding your wiring route and any tips for the roof rack spotlights. Maybe a few pics and a bit of a DIY if possible. Im pretty keen to do this mod.

Also..... How did you go about putting all the holes in your front bar....??? I'm asuming that was for airflow yeah? And I'm guessing you dont feel there has been any major compromise if bar integrity?

And..... where the hell are you front indicators dude?

BUMP.

Looking at doing this to improve cooling. There is not a lot of rrom in the engine bay once a H6 goes in there.

Main question I have is "Are there issues with water getting in the vents on deep river crossings?" I am assuming that it's not a big issue, but was thinking about cutting some foam rubber to size and just stuffing it in the vents for deep crossings.

the cheapest option seems to be falcon vents, e.g.

or these:

or these

there are others that look a bit better, but cost a heap more.

priobably the last one would work best.

Thoughts?
