Noticed this while changing the wheels over today. Anyone think this might not be safe? I've put it on as the spare for now but am wondering if it might be unsafe, especially at highway speeds.

I dont mess with tires I would replace it. You wont know what will happen till it does. I had a tire come a part with side wall damage like that. it was on the left front. I lost control of the car with wife and kids in it. The tire came apart in a bend in the road was driving 55 or so, I dont know how I missed the on coming truck and the trees past the ditch. but leggy is still with us

I'd change it to be on the safe side.
It might be ok but you never know.
The last thing you want is for it to let go, especially at highway speeds.
It's better to be safe than sorry.

FWIW I ended up going and asking the tyre place as I needed a quote on wheels and tyres for my new trailer anyway. He said definitely nothing to worry about in this case but I'll still treat it as more of a spare and keep an eye on it.

Definitely relegate to spare, as it won't get any better with additional road miles.
Perhaps keep as a 'second spare', if you have an additional rim.

It doesn't look structural to me. Yea, sidewalls need extra close attention because a fault in one is likely to fail at the most inopportune of times, but I doubt this is a case like that. Only the tire knows when the tire will break.
