Absolutely brilliant!! Makes me want to get to the US, buy an STI, tune it to the max, drive out West, and try Pikes Peak myself. Even if it would likely take me triple the time to get up the hill.

I couldn't imagine a more incredible combination of scenic beauty and heart-pounding performance...

Hey Rally, Great find! It was great to meet you at the club meeting on Friday night, Hope to see you there or out on the tracks soon.

Regards,

Joel

Cheers Joel. Just got back from Wakefield Pk. Cold, wet and windy, plenty of cars going off the track. That would qualify them for Offroad Subarus! Amazingly, some of the RWD V8 cars went out on cold slicks in the middle of a downpour on a wet track.

Rally of Finland perhaps?

Wakefield is a great track, I've never driven on it, but seen a few cars rip ip round there. Haha I like the subies becoming offroad subies too. I just checked Facebook, and my old boss (Glenn) has just put up photos of him in his white supra at wakefield. He might have been racing against you today.

Regards,

Joel

Did not see a Supra there, but I might have missed it too.

great video! i remember watching this live on tv when he set the record. We drove it last year when we were there, but they make you keep it around 15-20 mph :( . When you get to the top, you get to enjoy donuts made right there that can only be made at altitudes of 14,000 ft or more. They are tasty! No guardrails in most areas make for an intense trip if you're not from the mountains!

One of my favourites. Turn the volume UP all the way

And one of my favourite rally drivers in action- Gigi Galli

And a rather bizzare one

And some genuinely scary offroad action

As opposed to how dumb the people are who stand in front of one. Or walk out into the middle of the stage as the rally car comes through. Genetically linked to those who go fishing or swimming in floodwaters.

In the first video/OP: 5:37 - you can see where I parked on the right @ Glen Cove & 5:23 - I was in the woods off the side of the road on that bend enjoying a number of beers.

I live less than 20 minutes from the Pikes Peak Highway, so we go pretty much every year. You have to get there at about 4am so you can have time to get there and set up your spot. They close the road at 7am and by that point you are already set up and eating breakfast. It's a long day and getting off the hill at the end takes forever.

We have also sat out on Devils Playground (8:05'ish), which has some awesome switchbacks and you can look down on the helicopter chasing the car down below...then it will just pop up in front of you and you are eye to eye with the heli. One of the cooler spots to sit, but get there early.
