Hi all. My name is Josh and im driving an 03 outback with 113k on the clock. Im looking for some advice on tyres for the beast if i may?

I dont do alot of offroad travln, a few dirt tracks here and there, 99% on Sydney roads and highways.

I got 38k off the original dodgy geo's, replaced them with P6's which have just clicked over 76k with regular rotating, spinning on the rims etc. I was keen to get them again but when speaking to the tyre shop i deal with, he said that P6's aren't what they used to be. He sells em still, but has had trouble with quite a few customers. Blowouts, distorted sidewalls, uneven wear...he blamed this on Pirelli moving their manufacturing offshore from Europe into Asia (indonesia i think he said) and the quality has slipped.

Is this true, or was he having a lend of me?

He suggested Falken ze912's instead of the P6's. I dont know whether his margin is more from them or what, but ive read reviews on the 912's saying their a bit soft and wear a bit quick.

From my experience since new and talking to other outback owners, the shoulders wear alot quicker than the rest of the tyre, hence my wish to get another set of symmetrical tyres so i can rotate them evenly to get max mileage.

Does anyone know of another good symm tyre out there in 215/60 R16, or should i ditch that idea and go for something like Michelin xm1+ or even the P7's? I just dont want to go assymm and have to fork out for new tyres in 40-50k from now.

Thanks for any help and recommendations,

Josh.

bigjim,

I replaced the Turanzas that were on my 05 Outback when I bought it with P7s about 3000 km ago and am very pleased. Intend to rotate them every 10k.

I am mostly highway driving, with a bit of dirt track. I think they are fantastic tyres, and they have heavier side walls, if you carry a bit of gear when chasing the surf. I will be towing a smaller camper trailer with mine.

Cost me $169 a wheel balanced and fitted, price includes rotations at 10k.

Jax had them a couple of weeks ago at $159 each.

Really can't go past them at these prices IMO

Cheers Barry,

Ended up going with Michelin primacy lc's, fitted today for $159 @ Bob Jane Blacktown.

Will report back with thoughts in a few weeks.

Josh
