Well.... it's been a long while since I darkened these doors  - in fact my last log in was over 12 months ago!!!!

That's what happens when one has a domestic split - and loses their job in the same 6month period.....

Now I find myself a single dad every second week - great, because I have my daughter (now 5!!!) all to myself .... and I work for myself - even better because I earn twice as much and work even less :lildevil:

Are the old faces still here one wonders?

Are there never ending wishes to do the Simpson? (Or have I missed just such a trip in my absence?)

Recently I realised I was going to be up for more tyres for Suby (the road tyres are just about dead, and the Grabbers are over 75% worn) - and given that I now have a second car for work - I figured I'd go for more offroad tyres and give myself a week off to go somewhere....

I've done the Simpson as a guide numerous times, generally in 60, 75 and 80 series 'Cruisers, but thought that I'd put so much into Suby that it was time to give her a run...

Enough waffling... if you've read this far you're a glutton for punishment, one of the old faces - or..... someone interested in going to the Simpson....

Personally I am looking at the first week of September Vic school holidays (because my daughter will be with her mum) as the start date.

Two minds here...
(a) Meet interested parties in Broken Hill, travel to Birdsville ( a hole at the best of times...) and do an east/west crossing - harder than a west/east due to the dune shapes, finishing at Dalhousie Springs.

This would give the chance of returning via Oodanadatta and the Flinders Ranges, through to Burra, Mildura and home or...

(b) Do the opposite, meeting in Broken Hill, going across to the Flinders, Oodnadatta Track, Dalhousie Springs, Simpson Desert, Birdsville - then people go home to respective states/cities.

Unfortunately.... I can only grab 7 - 9 days, so it would be a little quick (but still spend a couple of days in the Desert - more if someone gets stuck....) Mind you, the catered tag-a-longs only went 12 days and farted around in the Finke River Gorge before going to Chambers Pillar and Lambert's Centre of Australia.... The desert component was less than I plan to spend in the Simpson.

I'm sure that my Suby could do it, comfortably, but there is safety in numbers - although the French Line is like the Hume in school holidays.... I do know a couple of other side trips though and would prefer using the Rig road.

If no-one is interested I'm still going to go to Dalhousie via the Oodnadatta Track and go out into the western part of the Simpson and have a relax - then head back to Adelaide etc...

Looking to leave Broken Hill on the morning of Sat 18 September

Who's interested in putting their hand up for some fun?

Cheers
Garry

Might be interested. Going to be taking 3 weeks+ off in july to do the cape but might b able to squeeze a week in sept. Not doing the cape in the subi though...

Keep us posted...

Did Simpson last year - Flinders in Oct this year so can't take more time off :iconwink:

I might be up around the Broken Hill / Wilcannia / Darling River area at that time....

It's difficult (at this stage) to know about dates/timing for sure but the 'safety in numbers' sounds appealing - especially if the Strzelecki, Cameron Corner or other remote areas are visited.

Welcome back mate. :)

Sorry to hear of your troubles over the past few months.

But getting back to the topic, sounds like a great trip in the making. :raz:

Regards
Mr Turbo
