Hi All

I have just returned from a holiday of the South West Australia. My wife and I decided to explore some logging tracks at dusk through the Karri Forest. They were gravel and packed sand tracks; Any two wheel drive car could have driven along them quite comfortably so no real offroading. The Subaru was a pleasure to drive. The 2 Litre was a bit under powered given some steep gradients but I am not complaining because it is fuel efficient. The low gear was great, engine braking down hill, keeping rev's down for fuel efficiency while still maintaining good power for acceleration and hill climbs. We kept to 40-50 kph for safety reasons (using 5th gear low range mostly), I kept a slow speed because I was more worried about kangaroo's jumping in front of the car than coming off the road. We practised some emergency braking to see what it was like – Not much different from bitumen; which was good when we suddenly came across a fallen tree branch which needed clearing. Overall a very comfortable and safe ride, beautiful scenery, nice bush walks in the area. We did not catch any fresh water fish but that is an excuse to come back and try again later..
