Hi All
I am new to this forum. I just ordered a new Outback 2010 Diesel. I want to moung a battery box in the rear cargo area but there doesn't seem to be any good anchour points to secure the battery box. I want the battery box hard up against the back of the rear seat. I am looking to put in a custom anchour point but I am unsure of what below the carpet etc.

Thanx

Dave

G'day david.sims27 & :welcome: to ORS.

Sorry I can't help out with whats under the carpets (Outback 2010 Diesel) , but I'm sure that someone will be able to help out with an answer.

Regards
Mr Turbo

You could probably make up a bracket and connect to the bolts behind the seats somehow. Here are some shots with the seats folded forward and the carpet removed. It looks like the middle piece of plastic comes out but I wasn't able to get it right out though. It unclips at the back and can be partially lifted up.

G'Day Troy,
Many thanks for the photos. Would you be able to give me the rough width of the plastic in Picture 2. I am hoping that I can mount my battery box over that part of the plastic.
I would guess I could sink an eyebolt though the plastic into the metal below.

If you were to fit a rear cargo barrier (Milford make one with an open section below the level of the top of the seat, so you can still fit long loads) then you could make a bracket that bolts / clips the battery box to the bottom / side section of the barrier.
I have such a barrier in my 05 Model Outback, and that is how I propose to fit a battery box. IMHO a wagon without a luggage barrier cannot safely carry anything in the rear. Also, the barrier allows you to maximise the useful volume of the luggage area!

Pics updated with measurements.

The cargo barrier would be a good option for securing the battery and also for safety. I haven't checked out where they fit to though.

I know that in the 05 Outback the barrier mounts replaced the 'upper bag hangers' (above the rear window) and the 'mid' pair of luggage tie downs, on the wheel well. Attaching arms go from these points to the mounting points on the four corners of the barrier.

There are thumbnail photos of the attachment system in this thread https://www.offroadsubarus.com/showthread.php?t=1002 in the 'Interior mods' section of the forum. Barrier - post #7, mounts - posts #9 & #10.

I assume there is now something similar on the market for the 2010 model.

The other REALLY important thing is to run your HEAVY Gauge (6B&S) wire to connect up your battery from the engine bay to the rear luggage area BEFORE finalising where the battery is to be mounted, so that you the battery is in close proximity to the anderson plug / merit socket.

Don't just rely on the rear auxiliary 'cigar' socket, if there is one!

Hi All,
Thanks for the updated photos. That was the info I was looking for. I just now need to measure the width of my battery box and see that it fits.
Hmmmm I was giving some serious thought to the cargo barrier. I rang up Milford on Friday and they have them availabe and apparently they use ARB in my area of Sydney. When I rang ARB up they appaenrlty didn't know anything of the Outback 2010 and couldn't give me any pricing.
I work in Industrial sales and travel about 4000km per month and intend to put the rear seats down to fit in my industrial lighting cases length ways so I I am not sure how I could do this with a cargo barrier in the way.

Thanks again to all for the info.

Dave
