my "brat" (brumby where im from) is a 1990 model and ive had to replace the ignition coil, problem is between removing the old one and getting a new one (took about 8 months) i have forgotten which wires go to which terminals on the coil. could use a little help,, the wire i have are: black with red line; black with white line and red cap; black with white line; yellow; and a yellow wire and black wire that run to the same connecter. pictures of standard coils and any help is greatly appreciated as i really want her back on the road.

Thanks in advance

James

I'm not sure what system is on the Brumby, but they are pretty old and probably use the old system. Firstly- does it run points in the ignition? If so, then the wire that leaves the distributor via the capacitor goes to the negative side of the coil. If you have a test light, find out which wire has power only when the ignition is in the "on" and "start" positions. This normally goes to the positive side of the coil. If the car has a tacho, then one of the wires is for that and that normally goes to the negative side of the coil.

With electronic ignition you should still have one wire that goes to the coil (negative side) and 2 other wires that also go to the dizzy. Not sure what the fourth wire would be for but it may be for noise suppression. The above is a generalisation of ignition systems and may not apply to your car. Since there are other Brumby owners of the forum they hopefully will provide more specific information.
