Well Subaru lovers I have been trying new things with our 10 year old Legacy. I bought this car for my wife new in 2000 I just bought her a 2010 Forester for her Birthday. Her legacy is now my new toy and I have plans for this car. I am getting every thing on hand to do a 4in lift using Outback struts 1.2 in longer then stock 2" spacers on the strut mounts and Geolander 215/65/R16 all totaling 4.1 inches of lift. A new Thule roof rack to haul my fishing kayak "still building the kayak". I am going to cover the bottom half of the body with Herculiner. Plus any other cool idea from this forum.

Sorry back to my post I have been climbing small hills close to home getting used to driving off-road with this car the hill in the photo is only 60 feet high but it is 30 to 45 deg. and from a dead stop I can climb it at 1200 to 2000 rpm, impressed me just another reason to love a Subaru.

First Video

Here is a video I did Sunday. I was trying to drive in the slop and hold the camera. if you look near the top of the hill I driving side ways around the corner. The car was all over the place, my tires are not the best for this Goodyear Eagle RSA's with half the tread left. Lots of fun playing in the mud

PS which AT tire is the best Geolander AT , General Grabber or the Copper weather Master.

Thanks
Nate

Yes you need tires.
I've got the Geolander AT's and would get again.
(great on road and very good off the pavement)
The Grabbers are probably a little better off road but less on road friendly.

Tires

Thanks Frogstar for the input on the Geolanders!

Do you think I should install the 215/60 R16 or 215/65 R16? I have had the tires and wheels from my wifes 2010 Forester ( 215/65 R16 ) on the Leggy with stock Suspension. The only place they rubbed was the top of the finder, when turning and going over the curb to my drive way. The Forster's offset places the tire out further the the Impreza wheels plus I don't have my lift installed yet. the tires will be installed last.

The one I don't under stand is the 16 in sizes have less tread depth then the 15 in sizes. I have 16in Impreza WRX alloy wheels on my Leggy.

Thanks Guys!

I've seen some suction mounted ones on the net called sticky pods, haven't used one though. But I know there's a thread here somewhere from Apsilon when he made a set up that bolts to hit passenger seat and can hold either his camera or computer.

Hi Nate

What i have done is get a standard tripod push the front seat back as far as it will go get the tripod place it on the floor like a triangle with the pointy bit facing the front.

Secure the camera on the tripod now get the camera close as possible to the windscreen with out touching it spread the legs of the tripod and adjust height so the camera is level.

Once in a good position get one of those cheap tie down ratchet straps place one hook under the dash then go over the tripod but under the camera, Hook the other end under the seat there is a bar that runs across from one rail to the other.

Then tighten (don't over tighten) until the tripod is firm give it a shake set the camera up pointing where you wont it, Set the sleep mode for as short as possible and leave it on so when your ready to tape just hit a button to wake it up hit the record button to start recording that's it!! works well for me.

You don't get much shake and you don't get half the dash in your video, another good thing is the camera wont fall off the seat like it would in normal situations

Here are two pics on how i did it

Camera Mount

Hey Yarney that tripod looks just like the one my dad has! My son told me that he did not want to share the front seat. I think I have Idea on a dash mount. Rite in front of me but not blocking my view and out of the airbag deployment area. I will post some photos soon.

One of the guys at dirtyimpreza.com says he pulls out the passenger's headrest and inserts 1 leg of a small tripod in the hole that's left. I saw some of his videos, and they look great. Perhaps this would work for you if your son is still real short...

Rocky thats a good Idea I will look in to that!

Hey Jan what kind of two way radio is that in your dash? I have been thinking about installing a CB in the dash I have a 1 din slot left.

Sorry my car was dirty when i took the photo.

Amateur radio, often called ham radio, is both a hobby and a service in which participants, called "hams," use various types of radio communications equipment to communicate with other radio amateurs for public services, recreation and self-training

The radios are professional grade hi powered equipment on regulated frequencies (CBs Like most of use are not regulated) and can reach hundreds of miles. In the USA you need a Licenses to have and operate the radios and you are given a call sign to Identify yourself.
