After using the AC on recirculating and then switching to fresh air non AC there nasty cats pee type of smell from the air vents. Can anyone suggest what this is caused by please? Thanks Biko

With the fans running, I spray some disinfectant in the intakes, internal & external, when this happens. It's fairly common I think.

Small leak of refrigerant gas. Normally the O-rings and fittings take up when you recirculate the gas in the air-con. You should run your air-con about once a month, which should help. If it persists, you might have a small leak in the system, and you will eventually run out of gas. Get it checked out by a refrig mechanic if you are worried.

Yep - I've been getting this smell since I bought the car....I know it well.

Before turning off the aircon, run the fan for 5 minutes - eg: when I'm driving home on a hot day I turn off the aircon about 5 km away and let it just run on the fans and the coolness of the aircon core.

It is just condensation in the piping, filter and core. If you ensure that the condensation is gone before switching off the engine then the moisture cannot fester in there whilst the car is parked.

I have the opposite problem. I get the smell until I turn the A/C on. At least on hot days anyway!:)

Smell with AC on and frsh air - Mold in HVAC box, use lysol or somethng, empty entire can thorugh intake vents at the base of the windshield. Fun selector thorugh all positions.

Smell with AC off- Greaes on cat from ripped CV boot, oil leaks, antifreeze leak. Same issues as above.
