Up bright 'n' Early Good Friday, with the esky full of ice, and the car full of pettie, I was on the F3 prior to dawn, which was nice, as I had about 5 hours ahead of me.
First stop was Cessnock, for a nutritious Maccas brekky. The trip out there took in some lovely quiet (suprisingly) highways like the Golden Highway. On the way out to Coona I got this shot (I think it was the Golden Highway).
It was an easy drive out to Coonabarrabran. As I was driving blindly from the GPS, it took me through the small town of Cassillis, and leaving Cassiliss I discovered that shortly after the 100 Km/H sign, that the road turns to dirt (slight shock at that speed, plus I'd disabled my GPS dirt road warnings).
Easter was great in the Warrumbungles... to my surprise, there was a full amenities block, however you had to beat the big crowds to get hot water showers. Got to do a couple of walks, i.e. Goulds Circuit, and Split Rock. I've left the Breadknife and Mt Exmouth to another time.
My friends whom I was with, had to leave for home on the Easter Monday, and since I didn't have to, I decided to keep heading north, to the lovely small town of Narrabri. From Narrabri I headed West to see the Australia Radio Telescope, which is a series of six radio telescopes on train tracks, to make a large array, the equivalent of a satellite dish of about 6km diameter. I also went to Yarrie Lake, which is believed to have be created from a Meteor.
From there I headed back to Narrabri and then onto Mt Kaputar NP. What a top National Park! Heavily wooded camp grounds, and lots to see and do at about 1500m above sea level. I did a nature walk, which is where I got to see a couple of feral pigs, who despite my best efforts, were too camera shy.
I got to see a cloudy sunset from Mt Kaputar's Summit
After a nice cool night at Mt Kaputar, it was time to hit road and start heading home. I took a slight detour, and visited some small towns like Tambar Springs (nearish to Gunnedah) where a family friend grew up, and Quirindi, where I stumbled upon an old work mate. From there it was to the New England through Scone, Musswellbrook, with a quick stop at Lake Glenbawn and down the F3 back home.
Congrats! You made it to the End!
Regards,
Joel
