There is a dark grey metallic 2010 Forester sitting in our driveway (well, not at this moment). It's the wife's so most likely no off road action, but it's sure a nice car. Very different in both good and bad ways, but mostly all good.

Our beloved Blubaru is going to be up for sale. A very intermittent hesitation issue left Laurie and the kids sitting beside the freeway the other day. At 114k mi. she has been a great car, but now needs a lot of other attention and the hesitation issue has never been properly diagnosed, we just can't take the chance with the kids anymore.

We'll sure miss her...

Sad to see Blubaru go. You know the hesitation issue is my fault. Didn't it start shortly after you left her with me in Atlanta. Just joking.
Congrats ! The new SH's are starting to grow on me.

Congrats on the new car and, yes, it will be sad to see Bluebaru go

Congratulations Mate. Great choice, and in a good colour too :)

Congrats carljwnc. :raz:

Although it will be sad to see 'Blubaru' go I have to agree with what you said re the wife & kids.

Hey fellas, new here. Speaking of hesitaion. I also have an intermiten hesitation issue. Is this a common thing? We have just been ignoring it. It doesn't happen often and only lasts for a second.

Anyway, no nead to sell a forester w/ such low miles!!! We got 160k and just drove it across country. Virginia to Phoenix, hauled a canoe and three bicycles as well as a bunch of other crap. Never seen her squat before. Never missed a beat even in 115 degreas in Phoenix.

Welcome 3jarrells! Perhaps have the injectors checked - mine had mud in them.

Howdy and :welcome:3jarrells!!!

Sadly our hesitation issue sounds like it was quite a bit worse than yours. Blubaru had been in the shop twice for it and they were never able to give us a definitive answer. We did change the spark plugs out. When we had the head gaskets done back in Dec. they used Autolite spark plugs and supposedly Subies don't like them. My wife saw the new owner a few weeks ago and he has had no problems so hopefully that was all it was.

Hesitations- where do you start! With the cheapest things first. Try some upper cylinder leaner and the fuel additive - you can get both from Subaru. Make sure the throttle body is clean, and check the plugs. I use NGK platinums, just make sure they are the right gap and heat range. Leads- are they damaged or just old? And some of the old coil on plug ignition systems can be problematic.

Congratulations, Carl and Laurie.

When I read "end of an era," my heart sank. I assumed you had left Subaru for your second car as well. Glad to hear you were able to stick with a shiny new Forester.

With a Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan X-Trail in front of our house -- both diesels with stick -- I sometimes feel like it's the end of our Subaru era. But as soon as we're back in the States, I'm confident we'll get at least one Subie. So it's really more like an intermission. :)

And given how much I've grown to love the X-Trail's turbo-diesel with 6-speed stick, I'm hoping the second act will include those two as main characters.

Congratulations, Carl and Laurie.

We sort of have added another Subie to the family too. Due to a very unfortunate accident that totaled my parents Honda Odyssey, they now have a 2010 Outback with the CVT. I haven't driven it yet, but it rides really nice. CVT adds about 5-6mpg.:)

As long as it's the Honda that was totaled, and not the parents!!

I've got mixed feelings about the recent bigger-is-better Outback and its CVT. But I have to concede that if the CVT can improve MPG and counter Subaru's reputation for poor mileage due to the AWD, it's a winner.

In one of my fantasy worlds, we'd own an Outback with CVT for my wife, and a WRX with stick for me. The more likely scenario is that my wife will get a Prius or a Mini Clubman, and I'll get a Forester (diesel, if available, or XT, if no diesel). Of course, this is still two years out. On the upside, "it doesn't cost anything to dream!" :raz:

Sorry to hear about your parents car accident Carl. I hope they are ok.

My parents were a little bruised up but other than that OK. Someone pulled out in front of them while they were going 50mph. This happened to them on their third day of a cross country trip. They got the Outback and continued on their way.

Glad to hear that they were not seriously injured.

Very true. Cars can be replaced, while people can't be.

Realized that I've never posted a pic of Nubaru, thanks for pointing that out Escher.

One of the high points of their trip was in your neck of the woods; Durango-Silverton Railroad.

Very nice Forester! I've heard they finally have more leg room in the back, is that true?

The Durango-Silverton Narrowgauge is AWESOME! We're planning to move to Durango next August, or the following, depending on how a few business deals go. Good luck with the new Forester!
