On the way to Newcastle last week I made a couple of diversions - first, off Thompson Vale Road at Blue Haven, then down to Redhead Beach via Belmont North.
This is on a short track off Thompson Vale Road Blue Haven. I stopped in this position to get a photo. I could drive forward out of this position without a problem because of the helpful downhill gradient. Going the other way (uphill) over this section though was quite difficult and I only just made it because the uneven ground meant the car was cross-axled, as shown by the lifted wheel here, and the unloaded wheels spun uselessly. Front and/or rear diff locks or decent LSD or even just the VDC traction control from the newer models would have helped a lot.
A bit further forward and cross-axled the other way. Still got out of this okay though thanks to gravity again.
On Redhead Beach with Bo, my Dachshund. I've driven on Redhead Beach a few times before and the network of access tracks is particularly good fun. Here are some pics I took while we were parked on the beach.
