Hello guys, I'm looking for a Subaru to buy, probably an OB or a Forester, don't really know yet. As a former Legacy GT user, I start wondering about the AWD system itself. Does AWD works exactly the same on every Subaru model. I mean under the same conditions, call it mud, sand, offroad in general, a Legacy, OB or Forester will perform the same ??? Hope you can help me here. Thanks..

As far as i know all will pretty much perform the same. With the exception of autos vs manuals (centre diff), and those with lsd rear diffs.

Traction control was introduced '09+ Fozzies. Don't know for OB.

thanks a lot for the answers, with that in mind i think i'll get an OB, suites more the family needs.

People say that the awd system doesn't go that well up against the old subarus constant 4wd (Non awd) off road. Over the time i have had my Liberty (Legacy) i have had very little trouble.
What i have found is when you are doing a hill climb very steep and loose surface with heaps of wheel spin the center diff will revert all the power to the front wheels:sad: temporarily. I am talking full wheel spinning going hard, With the old boxes you can spin all day and still have rear working.

How to get the rear working again in awd system is sit for 5 minutes and your right,
The best thing is try and get traction as mush as possible and if there is lots of wheel spin if you can slow down a bit the less rpm the better.

I am only talking on very extreme situations here is a pic of the track i first found out what happens most people in Subarus wouldn't try this anyway hope this helps
Yes i know it's a hilux but being first up you never get many videos or pics taken

I just reread your post and i think i went a bit over the top answering your question (i get carried away some times);) Yes both ob and foresters are the same the new models should be even better with traction control.
