Well then, last w-end I was lucky enough to visit Abercrombie N.P with the Subaru & Recreational 4WD Club & lets just say we had a great time. :)
There were 8x vehicles in total; 4x Foresters, 1x Jeep & 3x Toyota's (Prado, Hi-Lux & 60 Series)

Our first challenge for the day was this hill climb, & lets just say it was a beauty. Two (2) of the Forry's made it up 1st go (our trip leader & myself) :woohoo: The MY10 Forry made it on it's 2nd attempt:banana: while Kevin almost made it (90%) :sadbanana: & needed a little bit of a helping hand for the last few metres.

The Jeep & Prado just walked it up to the top with ease :iconwink: The 60 Series had a few dramas however & needed to be winched to the top (we used the Jeeps winch due to it being in such an awkward position)

Apart from that, the rest of th trip was completed with no further recoveries being required.

Some of the places we visited there were The Sink, The Beach, Licking Hole, Ledinghams Hut & Silent Creek at which we camped.

The best way to describe the rest of the trip, with it's steep hill climbs & decents, aswell as the magic scenery that was all around, is by showing it in pics.

Oooo its that hill (That I kept reaing about on other sites about ANP)

Nice trip and report mate, makes me want to go back :)

Ahh Abercrombie! I should have gone too! But I was busy last weekend. Looks like another great trip Mr Turbo. Top photos and report, as always! How'd the strut blocks go?

Regards,

Joel

I don't think i would have liked to be the the 60  looks like a good time tho
What sought of numbers do they get on a trip where there is a bit of hard stuff?
We don't seem to get many on these sort of trips these days only the usual ones

As mr turbo says "There were 8x vehicles in total; 4x Foresters, 1x Jeep & 3x Toyota's (Prado, Hi-Lux & 60 Series)"

A good turn out for sure.

How'd the strut blocks go?

Very well mate. :iconwink: I didn't notice any difference in the ride in regards to handling or harshness at all. :)

What I will say is that I did notice the difference in height / ground clearence though. It's amazing what a 1" inch gain can do.

I think this is the 1st time out of the 6 (or is it 7) trips that I've done there that I didn't bottom out once over the entire trip. :woohoo:

Yep, Bald Hill

I was able to get some video of that hill (Bald Hill) from one of the guys that was on the trip with us.

This is what it looked like from his point of view whilst slowly crawling up it in his Toyota.

I'm really happy for you Mr Turbo. Finding that thrill of conquering without so much terror of bottoming out and bending something adds to the pleasure of 4WDing doesn't it. Many more trips ahead for you then. :cool:Mt Walker is still in the game plan.

Yarney, there ARE a few Forester owners who get out on some of these more challenging tracks but it really is only a few. I have to say that between Kevin and Mr Turbo and one or two other Subie Club members (like Foresterman and Troy) I don't see anyone else really getting out there regularly pushing the limits of their vehicle and driving abilities... of course, you can see the mod's they've done to allow them to do that too but I think this concept will get another boom soon since the early AWD Lib's and even Foresters are quite cheap now. Because of the low prices we might see a few more younger drivers (with less experience and $$$) who will give their cheapie 4WD a good old go at these sorts of trips... I hope so anyway. There's much to learn about driving a car when out on these tracks. Overall, I've always found it hard to find a big number of Subaru drivers setting their cars up like the guys mentioned above... heck.. I've even got my old modded L-series up for sale so I'm out of the big Subie picture too. There's a LOT more advocates and participants in the offroad Subaru scene in QLD and WA than here in Sydney I think. How have you found it up your way?

Another awesome report!!!

Beautiful country and some nice looking trails, slide show is well worth viewing.

It's a great place thats for sure. :raz:
The views & the landscape are awsome, so too are the trails.
It would have to be my favourite destination & thats why I try to get there at least once a year. :bananatoast:

I think your right about the awd cars coming down in price and very affordable mods the scene up here is ok could do with some more new members but i think every club would like more members.

By the way you will miss your L-series every body dose;) including me
Thanks for the feed back

Jan

Hoo yeah I'll miss it when it's gone... that's why it's been for sale for about 18 months now. I've had my Patrol for over a year and the L-series has been in the garage all that time apart from a couple of emergency uses.
