Well after nearly 3 months i have finally got the liberty on the road again
I was up at Kenilworth when the gearbox started making noises i didn't think i would get home but i did.

I was looking for a gearbox for sale when i found a damaged liberty cheap so i took it and started to strip it for all the good parts gearbox engine diff ect.
I thought i would sell off the rest but got no takers

I decided to replace my engine as it has done 320000 km and is a bit tired new engine done 170000 put the engine in fixing up a few miner things oil seals and a like
In went a new heavy duty cluch
Then come the pull down of the box to see the damage

I got it apart and found one tooth on 1st gear was broken (lucky it didn't fall in and mash any other teeth and the last bearing on the output shaft had gone also.

I decided to use the new box

With the low low range in the old box the big question was do i pay a company to do it or do it my self  so i picked the latter
With much head banging, plenty of swearing and lost of drama it was finished
New bearings, seals and l-series low range in it is all good now

I found some rust in the boot and when i was looking at it i leaned on the rear window on the inside and it nearly fell out the glue had come away and was only held on by the bottom edge bugger

After taking out the window and repairing the rust it is all done:)

It drives a lot better with plenty of power now i start my holidays tomorrow and the first try out off road is on Sunday :) with a lot more driving to come

How much fun is it playing with gearboxes yarney??? I loved my experience and I've got another one to do when I get some parts I'm after. Was it hard to replace the bearings? I thought you'd have to push off all the gearsets to get to them - maybe I haven't paid enough attention to it. And are bearings expensive? I'd like to do this to the next box - an L series AWD with lockable centre diff

Well done, I'm hoping for your sake that this box outlasts all of the previous boxes put together!

Cheers

Bennie
