G'day quiggs & :welcome:
Try here. https://www.subaxtreme.com.au/

If it's only to mount some driving lights then a nudge bar will be the shot, but, if you intend to take your Forry offroad at some stage, then a nudge bar will take some of your approach angle away & you may be better off going for the bull bar instead.
It just depends what type of driving that you intend on doing.

Nudge bars are fine. They traditionally limit you approach angle and the like however.

This is a setup I ran for a very short time.

I converted over to a SubaXtreme nudge bar. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures. There is one of my Foz on the site banner though.

Here is a mock up of the SubaXtreme nudge bar. As you can see, it connects in through the lower air intake rather than below the bumber bar.

Alternatively, you could use a light bar. The thing that mounts behind your number plate. All you have to do is brace the lights if they are heavy and wobble.

Here are a few pics of what I'm talking about.

Last, but not least, you can go full hardcore  and get a bullbar to mount your lights  You get heaps more approach angle also

Hey Spinners,

Is yours the blue XT in the banner or the white one?

I'm trying to find out who owns the blue one as I use the water crossing action shot as my desktop wallpaper at work.

It's a great shot but everyone at work asks if it's me and my car in the photo....

All I can ever say is - "Nah - he is a fellow member of this Subie website club thingamie that I belong to".....

Nope. The white XS in the middle, front on with the nudge bar and cibie spots.

That will be Dicknose (David). He'll be at the ORS.com dinner this Friday evening at The Ranch. Your more than welcome to come along and put faces to the names.

I remember taking that photo of DN's water crossing.

It was taken while we were on a trip at Yerranderie a couple of years ago.

i have looked at those light bars, but i dont think to much of them.
I do like the way the nudge bar mounts threw the lower air intake .
Do you know of anybody that supplies in vic?

Yes they can be a little flimsy.

They are in Goulburn and can send down to you.

You don't necesarily need a bar to mount driving lights and there are options other than the rego plate brackets.
I ended up doing a similar mod to Outasight (on the old forum) using through grille brackets bolted onto the front cross bar (found underneath the plastic bumper and foam bumper inserts). I'll see if I can dig out a pic.

Update: found the pics. They are hella 4000 compacts. The brakets were about 180mm made of 4mm hardened steel cut and drilled to size. The brackets go through the grille and bolt to the aluminium box section crossmember (on the 05xt model) and the bolts on the lights were TIG welded to prevent easy removal. I have since deleted Outasights pics and the ones I took of when the bumper was off. Not sure how this would look on later model foresters as they messed with the front and the lights may project past the front of the bumper.

Hello all - my first post to the forum!

Eastie - thanks for posting the images of the grill brackets for mounting driving lights.
I have been thinking about doing the same thing but am not sure how to attach the brackets to the box channel. Did you just drill a horizontal hole straight through the box channel and slide a bolt thru? What was the wall thickness of the channel?

Thanks
Gecko

The channel has three sections from memory (one central large section with a smaller box section above & below). I drilled a 6mm hole through the top and bottom ones for each bracket. At a guess the walls of the section are about 5-6 mm thick. Outasight did it a little different and used 4-6 self tapping metal screws instead of drilling right through. In both cases we mounted the bracket to the rear of the channel section which is flat. To do it you need to remove the grille, bumper, light infill/surrounds and the channel itself. Most of it is held with plastic clips, screws and plastic fasteners. If Outasight is still around he may still have the pics and body diagrams.

OK thanks. Looks like I need to have a closer look. I just pulled the grille out and looked without removing the bumper. I could only see a single box channel that looked about 80 mm tall. My car is a 02 XS.

That single box chanel you can see is the one - if its the same as the 05 it has three internal cavities running the full width.

I don't know if these pics will help at all, but this is what my MY05 XT looked like when the front bumper was removed.
