I've not posted for quite awhile (life intervened) - I left a thread 'hanging' and yes the car computer is still in it's box - sorry, my Annual snow trip didn't eventuate in 2009 , and now i'm about to say goodbye to ol' faithfull - my MY2007 Forester X. However inside of a month i'll be sliding into a new MY2010 Forester X and am seriously considering a manual transmission this time around to i hope enhance the driving experience - i guess i want to 'drive' it rather than just 'point' it, as you do with AT's (wheel placement aside of course :)).

I'd be interested to here of others experience with MY2009 MT's before i order.

thanks Turbo, have just finished unbolting all my accessories - might have an online 'yard sale' - the towbar cum rear recovery point will be up for grabs cos it probably wont fit the new Forry...

Thanks for the welcome Simxs - I'm trying to decide whether a Manual Transmission is worth the 'work' given the amount of city driving that i do - I'll probably stay with an auto because they are good on the rough stuff.

I'm kind of debating the same thing myself for my next car. I've always been a keen manual driver especially on country roads and for the better engine braking you get, but sometimes the manual's drivetrain backlash gets to me and driving home after a day at work I think an auto would be nice especially in traffic. For an auto though, I'd personally crave more torque than the non-turbo Forester has - might have to stretch to an XT or wait for the diesel to come with an auto!

Does the '09 and newer out there get the low range?

Same deal as with the SG: manual non-turbos get a 1.2:1 low range, all others go without.

I did test drive a Manual Forester - real weird! - feather light clutch, electronic throttle with a noticeable lag when trying to coordinate engine speed with gear change. It all adds up to no 'feel'. Even after 50kms (dealer thought i'd stolen it i'm sure) still couldn't get the change right all the time. Hopped back into the wife's 1998 Nissan Pulsar SSS for the drive home....... now that's how a manual should drive.

I take delivery of my MY10 AT Forester on Friday 9th - colour Red. Can't wait to get it dirty.
