G'day all,

I was in the Robe area of SA looking for someone to go 4wd'n with in the Little Dip NP incase I got buried in sand. Unfortunately no one came for the fun, so my fiance and I went it alone. I don't have a lot of sand driving experience but what I learnt from the Goolwa trip in 2008 and the little bit of sand we saw on the last Great Ocean Road trip in November got us through :D

We enjoyed being able to drive along the beach, apparently there's only one spot you can do this in vic - that's down at Portland and needs to be organised with a club run.

Anyway, I had a ball. My fiance not so much - I covered her in sand a coulpe of times, and she didn't like it when we started to bog down. To be recovered it'd be a minimum $250 fee. Here are some pics:

You should be able to work this one out:

Lake Side Caravan park - Ruby Scoo and the Camper:

Cape Jaffa Marine Lifestyle development area - worth a look if you can get down there "before they all sell out and build!"

Back in Robe - One of the feature houses of the old town:

Little Dip Beach - to get on this track there was an awesome rock climb, I
thought I was going to scrap the guts outta Ruby Scoo to get up it but
we didn't touch a thing under there :D At the end of the beach there was another rock climb to get off the sand, it was quite technical and unexpected too. The sand on these beaches was quite soft:

This was the start of an awesome sunset, our last for the trip:

And we swung by Mt Gambier's Blue Lake on the way home - it was an electric blue colour this time, but the photo doesn't do it justice! Last time we were here, April 2008 it was a light aqua/grey colour. This is what it looked like this time:

Can't wait to be back in the area - as always! Just need to get some
stuff sorted (lift... still).

Hope you've enjoyed the pics.

Cheers

Looks like a terrific place to visit for sure!

Very nice, and awesome pics!

Sand driving sure is addictive, especially through sand tracks.

Nice pics and envious of the sand driving.

Noticed the rod holders, did you catch any fish?

Must be much better towing the camper with the ej rather than the ea?

Great stuff Bennie. Thanks for sharing the pics and commentary.

Good you got to stretch the EJ's legs on the beach. Are you still running the welded rear diff and taking a driveshaft in and out for off-roading? Locked rear have helped a bit on uneven sand and the rocky climb.

No fishing done - not enough time between sand driving and checking out robe... We didn't even catch any while we were up the Murray :(

EJ was awesome, we could actually travel at the set speed limit and at the worst fuel use it pretty much matched the EA's usual around home/benders fuel consumption!!

No welded for now - that might go back in with a lift and tyres. I said I wouldn't be offroading until I had a lift kit installed... What can I say? I'm an addict  The EJ went very well on the beach. Just need to find a super slim thermo fan to add a second one up front, I don't think I'll have any cooling issues then! She still got a little hot with the one but it was managable.

You didn't get pics climbing the rocks?

No cookie for you!:catfight:

That's what happens when you can't stop on soft sand heading up to a rockface! Next time I'm there I'll have someone waiting for me to arrive ;)

nice one Bennie. that place looks awesome.

It is Eden! Just wish it wasn't 6 hours or so away from me... I might go looking at the little or big desert NP in western/north western Vic next, we'll see what pans out...

Thanks again to all those who viewed and post

Cheers

Bennie
