hey fellow dirty Subie owners, has anyone tried this conversion?

Any input/suggestions/etc would be appreciated.

Apparently, you replace the stock 12V 55W with a 12v 35W hid kit.

Is this a high/low conversion or just high beam? If just the high beam then how would the low beam work, forgive my ignorance but I'm assuming that you have the standard Q/H globes that combine the high/low with two filaments.
Again (an assumption) don't the HID lights work on refocusing the one beam (filament) for high/low and don't take to kindly to being switched on and off constantly due to the dwell cycle of the ballast.
Help me here guys if I'm talking ****, I'd like to know the answer as well.

I have no experience, but most of the kits seem to be plug & play. Just need to find somewhere to mount the ballasts. And since they use less power, no need to upgrade your wiring!

BTW, Jaycar are selling kits at approx $65 each, including either a H1, H3 (single beam though) or H4 bulb. Obviously you'd need 2. Can prob find cheaper on eBay but at least you can take it back to a store if it don't work!

I've done 4000 series -both full size and compacts. These lights have a flat section on the rear of the housing which is perfect for running the HID wires and sealing with a grommet. Typically converting means drilling a hole in the back of the lense housing and running the HID wires through there, there should be a suitable grommet in the kits for this which will determine the correct hole-saw size. Just make sure you mark the centre of the rear of the light accurately before you drill. Mount the ballasts up under the bonnet behind the grille out of the way.
