Last weekend me and a few of my buddies decided to go on a bit of a boys fishing trip up to Bribie Island. In our little group we had Baker in his Triton single cab, Tex in a Nissan X-trail, Pepe in his Outback H3.0 and of course me in my trusty Pearl. This was the fist time I have tried her out for a bit of beach work since the mods and I was pleasantly surprised. Even on the exit track (see the pic of me hauling Tex's "soft roader" out) that was catching out Pajeros, Navaras, Jeeps and Discoveries (had to push or snatch out about six cars before we could even get on the track), I just was able to just chug though. Super impressed with the Cooper ATRs. Let them down to about 22-23psi for the general stuff and then down to 16psi for the super soft stuff and snatching out a few people. Really puts some tread on the sand and the side walls have plenty of flex. Would highly recommend them to anyone looking to extend the off-road capabilities of their Subi.
Actually, the Coopers would have done well on Pepe's Outback. It is dead stock (it is actually his company car!) and he got bogged a few times, but a lot of it was due to inexperience (it was his first time doing any sand driving). I think his limiting factor was probably the low profile tyres he had fitted. I reckon with some decent shoes and a AuSubaru strut lift it would be a fairly capable off-roader, with power to burn. Sure as hell better on the sand than the X-trail at least.....
So all in all a good weekend, not many fish but plenty of booze, tall tales and good off road fun. Will try to arrange an all Subi day up there sometime in the New Year. Who would be interested?

Enjoy the pics

Good stuff - tell me, did the X-Trails AWD system overheat and default to FWD? We had one on Stockton Beach that got stuck a lot and I'm sure that's what it was doing.
