I know, bloody tyres again.
You'd have thought all discussion had been exhausted, however I am very frustrated with the lack of options for 215/55R17. The original yoko G900 have just about had it. They have been OK, but it would be nice if there were a few others to consider. Not even many passenger tyres the right size and I'm a bit dubious about their strength. I do a bit of off road, mainly on gravel tracks, although did go into the Bungle Bungles and surrounds last year, so after something strong enough. Also planning to buy an A'van soon. I would be grateful for any suggestions and recommendations.

thanks
Ross

Geolander A/T-S comes in 215/60R17 although the change in profile theoretically results in a greater than 15mm difference in outside diameter which makes them illegal in some Australian states - check with your local authority.

Change in diameter = 215 x (0.60-0.55) x 2 = 21.5.

This is theoretical - might be worth verifying with a tape measure. That said, quite a few people flout the rules on this point any way.

Otherwise, the H/T-S, though not as aggressive in tread as the A/T-S is still a better better than the G900 and does come in 215/55R17.

G'Day Ross - I had to reduce wheel size to get the tyres I wanted. I don't like the idea of lower profile tyres out on our country tracks; the more meat the better!

Sick of procrastinating have ordered a set of yoko H/TS. Hopefully they'll do the trick.
Anyone out there with 17inch wheels, dealers will tell you H/Ts don't come in 215/55R17 as they don't appear on their price list. However a search of the Yokohama web site indicates they do and when I insisted to the dealer he rang his supplier and they confirmed their existance.

I have just done 10470km of outback Qld & NSW at the end of life of my 205/60R16 Turanzas. Car was loaded to the 'gunwales' (if it was a boat it would've sunk :lildevil:) without any problems.

Two punctures, 1 to each rear tyre, from picking up wire on dirt roads. Both patched OK. No problems having run at significantly lower pressure while loaded for several kms.

I really can't see why I would fit anything else.

By the way, the above are tyre sizes, what are the wheel size specifications (can't find in the manual!).

Got the H/T-s's fitted. Look pretty good, quite an agressive tread pattern. Seem reasonably quiet. Heading to Point Hicks Boxing day. Three passengers, roof pod and bike rack and towing a trailer. Should give them a good workout.

Does the 215/60R17 Geo AT/S really fit? By the calculations I reckon it's slightly larger than the 215/65R16...

Yokahama 215 60 17

Hi i have has the same problem with my 2006 xt forrester. I have just put a set of 215 60 17 yokahama ats tyres. I have put them through there paces on the bituman and found them to be quite gripy with a little howling on realy sharp fast cornering to be expected from all terrain tyres. I have only done a little dirt driving but have found them quite grippy there to. I live on a cattle station in the gulf and the dirt roads at the moment are impassible but when the wet is over they will be taken through there paces on shale and black soil roads. The only problem is to fit the spare in it needs to be deflated. but not a real problem as i carry a tubless repair kit and a 12volt aircompresser. As for the law part it is 22mm bigger in diameter the qld rules say 15mm its not even noticble to look at. I went through bob jane and they just got me to sighn recipt to say i know tyres have bigger diameter and recommended to tell insurance company. Im yet to contact my insurer shannons but i think i will have little problems with it. I hop my information helps will post some photos when i get car after wet.

Will be interested to see your pics Corsa - you're a fair way from most of us so the landscape and driving conditions you encounter would be quite an eye-opener.

Good to hear you're having good results with the A/T-S as well. They really perform well on greasy unsealed roads in my experience.

Ha, good to know it can be done! I would also be interested to see some pictures...

I should be up for new tyres in about 5000 kms and would like to get some AT's on so this might be the go!

Cheers,
Pedro.
