Well, I guess I'll kick this section off then.

I discovered Geocaching about a year ago and was hooked right from the start :D

I guess what I like about it is the feel of "the hunt" and that it can take you to areas that you thought did not exist.

I like bushwalking, so I try to do those that take me to parks and the like.

I use my PDA with Oziexplorer with maps that I downloaded from GPSAustralia with a bluetooth GPSr, it works for me.

I have not released any caches yet, but have a few planned.

I guy that works with me got me into it. He's been geocaching for the better part of 7 years, pretty much right from the start. As it turns out, the 3rd cache released into Australia is located within Lane Cove NP (3 minutes from my house), albeit, nowdays it is a virtual cache. You can only get within 5m or so of where it once lived.
 
Mmmm, sounds like something I might just have to investgate a little further.

I'm developing an interest in this as well having just bought a GARMIN Summit off Nicko at GPSAustralia .....i want to put it work!!

oh yeah! if anyone is interested in a day trip geocaching to the mountains or somewhere give me a shout. would love a day trip. even geokid friendly ones:)
 
I am a member of GPS Australia and also geocache.com. Using my nokia 6110 Navigator with the free Trimble Geocache software on it. It works a treat.
 
Just saw this thread. I've been going Geocaching with my kids for the last year or so thanks to the seed planted by an ex work colleague. The young ones (4,5 and 11 year olds) enjoy heading out to find the "treasure" and take their own little things every time to swap with whatever's in the cache.

I haven't kept up-to-date with registering my finds online but we always leave a note.

As it stands, I'm looking to head to Mt Walker in the near future (as soon as my Patrol gets it's front bar) and there's a cache there I'm heading for. :-)
 
The Mt Walker I'm speaking of is right near Lake Lyell on the Western side of Lithgow. If you're a fan of 4WD Action magazine you will have the DVD that came out with a recent issue showing Roothie on a trip with a few guys there and then the following one showed him towing a camper trailer around where I led the guys through in January. Top 4WDing all around there!

Yeah I subscribe to 4WD Action. I recall that DVD segment. 4 vehicles in total with, all terrain camper trailers and the guys that runs them, I think.
 
Yep, that's the one. All-Terrain Campers it was. What they did is exactly the stuff we could and should do with our Subies. I know the water crossing they did and the "three sisters" hill climb they didn't climb without winching and snatching each other up... we came down the easy one on the Lidsdale trip (right where Mr Turbo's Forester had to stop to cool down after he'd bumped the fan kill switch). No-one reports I've read really tell that they can get UP the third track (comp-vehicle stuff if at all), the 2nd track is possible with BIG cars and the 1st track is fine for some Subes and bigger cars with good drivers.

Anyway, I've looked on the Geocaching sites and, yes, there are a few up that way but only one that I saw right on the peak of Mt Walker. I'd like to check out what other ones are nearby on the tracks.

Far be it from me to tell anyone what they should like, or not like - specially if it doesn't hurt anyone else.

God only knows, humans do plenty of stuff that hurts other humans. This activity seems to be extremely benign :ebiggrin: :biggrin:. That's a big plus IMNSHO.
 
Not silly to me, but then I'm an occasional cacher.

It was something to do once you get out into the wild. There's not a lot of fishing and such around here. I've lived in the area for a very long time and already explored most of the accessible roads several times over, so this was an opportunity to take a look from a different perspective, sort of LOL

When I go on vacation out of state, I'll look for Virtuals or Earthcaches in the area. Sometimes that will help you to find scenic, interesting, or "secret" locations that you might not find otherwise.
