Anyone using Windows7 and what do you think.
I'm just about to get a new hard disk, Samsung Spinpoint 750gb F1, and do a clean install. I've got Vista anyway and it has not given me any trouble but i have corrupted a few registry entries and it is not letting me load a few games so i just want a nice new start.

have been running since the RC on fujitsu p1510 tablet pc with 1gb RAM and 1.2 ghz CPU. runs slower then XP but the UI is so much better for a touch screen device. neven ran vista so can't comment on differences. given that its a 4yr old hardware platform it's not too bad.

some of the drivers I have and apps are running in compatibility mode for XP. can require a bit of playing round to get some working right.

question is would I go back to XP? for some more performance maybe but for usability no, win7 is so much nicer.

Joffa.

I'm a late comer to computer ownership so have always had Vista. I use a couple of machines that use XP and after having Vista, XP is just plain UGLY!!!
I know that a lot of (most) businesses don't use Vista for lots of reasons that are meaningless to me but for mugs like me Vista has never been a problem.
Emails,Google,a few pics and documents and games. That covers me.
I realise that Vista did have problems, none that affected my use mind you, but i reckon a lot of people just followed the talk and bagged it.
Everyone i know that uses it are not at the computer literate advanced stage and therefore have no problem.
I can see with that processor that it would be slower. Time for an upgrade methinks.
Novembers PCAuthority has some good info. If you can't get it from a newsagent do what i do and get it from your local Library. Worth looking at.

I have WinXP and Win7 RC 7100 as a dual boot configuration and have only used XP about 3 x times since Aug when I installed Win7.
I never used Vista but some friends had it on their PC's and I used to flounder around in them when trying to find things to sort out their software glitches etc but with Win7 I have never had that problem and it has been so stable, never had a BSOD yet.

When the RC version gets close to shutting down every 2 hours I'll be buying a copy of Win7 Professional.

Have used XP, Vista and 7 in last few weeks, we have machines at home running each. And 7 is superior. Runs nice and smooth.

Here is a bit of useless info for you.
If you go to a retail outlet like Harvey Norman and buy, say, W7 Home Premium the price is $299 But if you buy off an authorised online seller the price is around $130 BUT you must buy a bit of computer hardware to get this price eg a new hard disk. It is some sort of Microsoft condition.
So i can get a new HD,which i will be doing,Samsung Spinpoint F1 750gb, AND W7 Home Premium for around $240 delivered.
I checked this out with the mob i use,EYO, to make sure this was right as i was a bit confused about it, and explained i wanted to do a 'clean install' and they said it was correct.

And here is a $ saver too.................

You may be surprised to discover that in Windows 7 there's no difference between the "upgrade" and "full" DVDs and — just as with Vista — the cheaper upgrade version can indeed be used to perform a full install.

I did not actually check that but the version i will be buying is for a clean install so it has to be the full version.

Well, at home I use two Macs :raz:

But...if you don't want to do that jump, this might help - at work I help manage a fleet of PCs/notebooks/netbooks. We've had access to Win7 betas then production versions for quite some time (we use XP generally, we didn't upgrade to Vista).

All in all I think it's a pretty good product, and performance on Win XP spec machines (and low end netbooks too) is very good - but more RAM certainly helps, go for 2Gb minimum and I think you'll be quite pleased. We've had a few issues with drivers, but if you are buying recent hardware, I doubt you'll have much of a problem, or if you do it won't be long before an update for your hardware would come out. It has mainly affected docking stations for some types of notebooks.

If I could take the best bits of Win7 and Mac OS and turn them into a new product, I'd be ecstatic!!
