Saw these mentioned on another forum and thought they look pretty good so wanted to share: www.rotopax.com

Colour coded containers for petrol, diesel, water, 2 stroke etc as well as empty containers for emergency/first aid and general storage.

What makes them interesting is that a couple of them can interlock and also the retention method. Could be a good way to securely carry a bit of extra water or gear in car etc. I'm certianly going to have a closer look as my storage system plans progress.

G'day Apsilon,

These look like a great idea. I have recently been trying to figure out water compartments on the foz, but these are great, especially at the prices... (even if they are in Seppo bucks)

Would definetly reckon you could secure these to a roof cage/basket with no drama's, but would probably fit just as easily in the cargo area anyway.

Cheers

Per volume they seem expensive; a gallon is 3.78 litre. Good idea though.

Certainly not the cheapest options but may be a good for someone where other options don't fit.

Oooo those are very cool!!!! I wish my saddlebag mounts and bags on my motorcycle were strong enough to accept them bolted to my bags.

wow!

These are just what I needed for my hatchie !!!

The 2 gal. fuel/water pack is perfect for my needs...I can stow them on top the overhead rack..Given my limited range in the hatchie , 12gal. fuel capacity. It'll be nice to have reserves and not take up space for storage.

The prices aren't bad as a 2.5gal jerry can runs about $95 USD average from ebay!
I've yet to find a decent water container that isn't a milk jug or 5gal jerry can. 2 gal. is perfect.

:iconwink:

G'morning All,
saw those rotopax on a well-kitted jeep outside Cabelas a few weeks back; Cool design, so I looked 'em up right quick back home - Yikes! +1 Kevin, they're $$
kept looking, and found some 4 gallon aqua-tainers (Reliance) that fit behind the front seats on the floor - clever reversible cap/twist spigot that doesn't leak, and they stack.
for fuel, I'm looking at a 6 gallon HDPE tank for outboard boat motors that I can put up on the roof basket; already has fittings for a fuel line, so using the mattress pump, I should be able to start a siphon down to the main tank filler. should be enough to get me back to civilization ...

I'm looking for something small like this for Fuel (red) and Water (white) and a roof rack mount in Australia?

Was hoping to find a few pictures of the rotopax and how people had secured them on their subies.
While browsing random forester related images on a particular social media platform I saw a forester that had it's rear window (passenger side of the boot) removed and replaced with an inset housing.
This retrofitted housing for the container in my opinion was a good use of the otherwise wasted space. The housing would have been rebated probably 70 - 90mm into the boot so the rotopax was barely protruding past the surrounding panel.

I can't locate the photo anymore but I'm hoping someone knows what I'm talking about or has seen something similar. I would like to incorporate this into my 2004 forester but would prefer to copy someone than wing it...

(I'm aware rotopax have their own basic/standard fixings/mounts.)

In the US, they are mostly installed in the roof tray/basket.

The most common ones I've seen are the ones behind the spare wheel attached to the Class III hitch gate.

I looked into this before because of the low-profile form factor. If I will mount one in mine, it will be on the roof tray. I am not sure about the legalities of using a class III hitch gate here. Cheers.

Yeah, that's what I thought, thanks mate.
And upon closer investigation, the one in my picture is actually a first aid kit...
