G'day all,

I'm organising a cruise along the Great Ocean Road in early December. Route lenght/times are TBA at the moment.

I'm thinking of incorporating an end of year bbq in it as well - a bit like what was done in WA in 2007 when I cruised over there for their bbq. We may do some light offroading for those that want to - again TBA!

Currently the best dates are looking like the 5th and 6th of december (or the 4th and 5th, which ever is the weekend). It'll probabily be a saturday event, allowing people to stay over night at the end point if they so desire.

If anyone's interested post here or PM me.

Cheers

Bennie

Another, would love to. I will be on the last days of the Great Victorian Bike Ride. This year they are riding along the Great Ocean Road, so I will have just been along it, albeit at a much slower rate.

Ah yeah, forgot about that! I missed out this year as I didn't have the funds to do it and when I did the capped number of riders was full... I was lucky enough to do it a few years ago - the last time I did the great vic, we boycotted the year after as there was 8000 riders on that ride and they were hoping for 10,000 on the next one. So we did the Great WA bike ride for 2 weeks!

Back on topic, no worries - Barry I'm a tad bit jealous! Have a safe one!

Cheers

I took a group of school kids on the first Great Vic back in '85.
Was on the organising committee of the second (was Secretary of the Bicycle Institute of Victoria, as BV was then called, at the time.)
Yeah, the rides just got too big for mine, but I was always an 'independent' touring cyclist at heart, carrying all gear on the bike.
(So why do I find it so hard to fit all my current gear in an and on an Outback, if I used to be able to fit it in 4 bike panniers?)

Barry,

The first GVBR was in '84. I too was right into cycle touring back then also, and remember when BV had its headquarters in the city square. This will be my 24th consecutive GVBR.

Sorry about the thread hijack Bennie.

Hey Bennie,

I'm interested... Will give me a chance to check on your EJ... But still a bit away, so I gotta wait till it gets closer to the date to confirm.

Let's see how we go with that "light offroading" again, hey?

Weekend is 5th and 6th, btw.

Cheers,
Pedro.

Ah your right fellas - I'm finding it interesting! So you've done 24?! That's insane! I love doing the rides but the cost is the killer, especially when I'm working towards other things... All been good times though.

Thank Pezimm for the dates of the weekend, I've since checked them out and have the date set for Saturday the 5th of December. This way people can organise overnight accomodation if they so desire.

I'll have to organise a route plan and I'll try and sort out a small 4wd loop so we can park the On-roadering subarus, put their occupants into the 4wd'n subis and go offroad for a bit OR we can call it a day and part company from there... All TBA.

Cheers

Bennie
