Hi

Have just bought my first Subaru. Got an MY09. It is the 2 Litre Turbo diesel. These are only available in the UK with the six speed manual gearbox. I intend to use it off-road at some stage.

A lot of threads on various boards seem to suggest that the automatic is best for off-road use.

I am going to run into problems?

G'day johnw33 & :welcome: to ORS.
Whether to go auto or manual is always a good debate.
If I had my time over, I would probably go for the auto, but in saying that, I still really enjoy my manual.

Nice choice mate, & I'm pretty sure you're our first diesel Subi member.
You must tell us how it goes when you take it offroad.

Regards
Mr Turbo

Gday John and Welcome,

I drive a Auto 2.5 Turbo and it is great off road. The XT manual not coming with dual range was the deciding factor and the Auto had the tiptronic so at least I could pretend.
Very keen to hear how the Turbo diesel goes off road. I think the torque from the diesel would be good, not sure what the gearing is like. I would have liked to see a dual range box in there but as with the petrol 2.5 turbo, there is probably too much torque.
One thing I am very cautious about is the turbo being at the bottom of the engine.

Cheers,
Troy.
