Okay so i have a 1999 Subaru Outback (the whole story is long but short my parents bought me with my money and I had no say). I want to give this thing more of a unique look and am wanting to get a roof rack but everywhere I look I can't find and. I am looking for ones like these

https://www.defenderracks.com/

My buddy has one on his truck and i looks awsome, I want one that is as long as the top rack (the original on there) plus some more, and then I actually want to mount lights to the front of it (for some reason I keep thinking of one i saw in Godzilla 2000, maybe another one). Any help would be greatly appreciated

G'Day AOD and Welcome!

You have very wise parents! :iconwink:

really?

I had found an 04 with less than 80k for a few grand more but they got me this. I hate it cause I can't find anything for it. Like a cold air intake, they have all these after market parts for new nes, but not my 1999 Subaru Outback Legacy

:welcome:AngelOfDarkness!!!

Not sure what to tell you about the roof rack, but for the other mod interests hook up with hondaslayer here on the board. He is aka. Ben at Hodges Subaru and he knows your Outback very well having just sold a very similar one. Not only can he tell you what is available, but he can get a lot of it for you at a great price.

Welcome!

If you want my suggestion I would go with a sportrack set up. Its made by Tule and kicks much donkey. I have one on mine.

Heres a pic:

Heres the place I got mine, they really kick donkey with customer service: https://www.orsracksdirect.com/sportrack-roof-basket-rack-a21030.html

That actually is a nice roof rack, the only thing I got to ask is can in be longer for one and two is there anyway to mount 4 lights on the front. Thxs by the way for the warm welcome everyone

I have a couple of light mounts that clamp on to roof racks - I think they're Thule. I've only used them for an extended antenna with a sand flag.

Yea, they are all extendable. They sell middle sections to make them longer. Most have brackets for mounting lights available as well

Thule is the best imo for the price. I have all thule stuff (even some thule knockoff, lol) and you can't go wrong. Where in colorado are you? Come check out my thule knockoff with extension. Mighty mounts are the best way to mount lights as well.

WELCOME!

Yea you can buy the extension for it which makes it as long as the one on Smash's car (they are the same rack).

You can leave the wind deflector off and mount lights to the holes used to mount the deflector. Or make a mount out of box steel that attaches to the underside of the rack and comes out in front of the deflector to mount lights.

Are you after a roof basket or roof racks? Do you already have roof racks to mount the basket on?
I have Thule roof racks and just a prorack basket to carry the luggage. Mounting lights to any basket is easy enough (although mine are on the bullbar).

I actually like the thule ones that were posted in the photos, those are the ones I am looking at, I also want to find a way so I can attach the lights and de-attache them and put the shield back on since I have to do an hour drive from my college campus to get home (if I ever choose to)

'Re-cycled Fairing' for roof basket.

I have a 'Supercheap' roof basket and want to make a fairing for it.
Would it be practical to re-use the plastic sump guard in this way?
I recon it is probably about the right width, (will measure tomorrow) and it should help improve air flow / minimise loss of fuel economy and moderate roof noise.
Also, seems like a pity to just chuck it when I have Subaextreme fit my guard next week! And 're-use' is the best form of 're-cycling'.
Happy to be told I'm up the wrong track, if that is the case.

Did some measuring today. Recon that judicous use of a hack saw (Stanley 'pad saw' in tool kit;)) and a few Jubilee Clips should do the trick.:raspberry:
