The fan speed switch in my '94 L Series Wagon is dodgy. Air only comes from the vents when it is on setting '4' - flat out. I think its most likely the resistor block causing the problem, as when on setting '4' the current by passes the resistors and goes directly to the fan.

Has anyone had the same problem? If so, was the resitor block? Where abouts is it located? Do you have to pull the dash out?

My heater is also playing up. I can't seem to get any hot air to come out of the vents. I have checked the heater pipes from the radiator and they seem to be in place and in good condition. I'm not sure if the problem could be linked but any help or ideas would be appreciated.:)

Cheers,
Justin

The fan resistor is a common problem - there was a write up "somewhere" on what to do so searching the web should turn it up. We pulled the fan in my step-sons L a few years ago; while I can't recall the exact steps I know it wasn't too hard. I think the common problem was that the connections fail (or burn out) and you have to re-solder them (?).

Its a common problem in a few electrical components - namely the clock and the headlight dimmer switch...

I don't know where the resistors are located, but I think its in the fan ducting on the passenger's side. A few of the boys from ausubi have just done the same thing.

As for your heater, check the cable that opens and closes the flap to the heater core, on Oz delivered L's its beside the driver's left foot on the side of the heater box and can be easily accessed without removing dash parts. Also if you can get your hand up behind the heater box near the cable, try and feel for the gearing and arm are working fine - if the arm has dropped off the flap won't work. If all's good it could be a blocked core or blocked airflow over the core - have you got AC?

yes the resistors are in the air box behind the glove box. it's one of the easy things to get to. I forget the going price for them.
