There is a trap that you have to be careful not to fall into. As far as I am aware, all Subaru's switch on the negative side of the lights, ie both Hi an Lo have 12 volts on the positve side of the globe at all times.
The switch that you wire into the control side of the relay has to go from the negative (ground) wire to the negative side of the low beam. This way when you are on Hi beam there will be a 12 volt potential difference across the coil of the relay, (Hi beam will be 'shorted' out because it is 'on') allowing it to close, and complete the cct for the driving lights.
Hope this makes sense, or maybe someone else can explain it better.
