silicon sealant

I just noticed a small coolant leak coming from the thermostat, so I'm off to get a new gasket. My question is, should I get genuine or non-genuine? Do I need to use gasket goo & if so, which one? I also have a small oil leak from the oil filler neck where it bolts onto the engine. I've...
