side steps

I recently purchased my first AWD - 2001 subaru forester limited edition model manual. The man i purchased it off had fitted it with side steps and i am doing my first offroad trip to moreton island soon and i am worried if these sidesteps will be a big problem? Would it be smarter to take them...
