air intake

Good morning, im just starting to set up my 03 forester and wont to do sumthing with the air filter, im keen to eather modify or do away with the standard arangment, whats avalabel out of a box, wher do I get it from , also iv read about snorkels are ther eny more impruvments or dedicated...

So I have a '99 Outback Legacy and have been looking at that hood scoop that is purly for looks as I can tell, has anyone modded that scoop to work as an air intake??? I mean I haven't been able to find a cold air intake, but was thinking I could use that as a ram air (same concept as a cold air...
