This installation is for a 2002 subaru outback, i will not accept any responsibility if anything happens to your car as a result of this install

1. I decided to install the uniden Uh400sx uhf radio and antenna, here is my installation.

2. Start by finding the rubber grommet in the engine bay, take this out and get someone to poke a screwdriver through so you can see in the foot well where i comes out, put the antenna cable through and pull out enough cable for where you want to mount the antenna

3. Now start taking the gear knob off and the boot aswell, this will leave you 2 screws that will need to be taken out from where the little tray is.

4. There will be another two screws holding the coin tray in, these need to be taken out so that the fascia suround can come off, once these are out slightly pull at the bottom of the panel and work your way up, be careful because these may be very fragile.

5. After that you will have to take the main unit out there are two screws on the bottom and two either side, a magnetic screwdriver would be the best for this just incase they fall and you cant find them, the main unit should just slide out ofter that.

6. I decide to put mine in the bottom DIN slot cos i didnt buy the DIN surround for the radio, this is prob a good idea to buy it when u get the radio, so i took the bottom DIN slot out but the uhf poked out way to far and would probably hit the gear stick, because it was tapered in i ended up cutting off about 25mm 1inch from the back and it then fitted in fine i used sum cloth tape to hold it in there for now. sorry no pictures for this step.

7. For the power i used the cigarette lighter power cables, i hardly ever use the outlet so i thought id put it to good use, there will be two plugs coming off, one for the power and one for the light power, the one attached to the globe is NOT what you use.

8. For this step its probably a good idea to disconect the negative from the battery but there was no power going to the cables with the keys out of the ignition, we also verified with a little light thing, cut about 10-15mm of insulation of the two cables and solder to the powers of the uhf. black is negative an power is yellow.

9. Roll electrical tape over both joins and then tape together so there not moving around.

10. Now you can connect the power lead and the antenna lead to the uhf and start putting back together, you might want to turn the car on just to see if all is workin properly, I fed than antenna cable under the bit of plastic and left the excess cable on the floor and cable tied up the excess cable when i was done.

11. Now you can start putting back together, try not to squash any cables when you are doing this, there is also a bit of flexibe tube in the back i think this is for the climate control or something like that i couldnt get mine back in so i just left it.

12. Now for the aerial, find a spot where you want to put it, i put mine on the passenger side bonnet, i was going to put it on the driver side but i think i would start gettin anoyed with it in my vision all the time, i bought a stainless steel little thingoto mount it, it was easy as drilling a couple of holes and screwing into the car, i had to bend the clip a little bit so i could shut the bonnet. cable tie any loose cable so it doesnt get caught on anything while the engine is running and attach the aerial.

13. The last step! clean up any mess and now sit back and check out what youve just done:ebiggrin::ebiggrin::ebiggrin::ebiggrin:

Thats a great write up mav, there's a heap of info there that I'm sure will help a lot of people that are wanting to put a UHF CB in their car. :)

Well done mate. :yourock:

Mr Turbo

Good work.

To those of you who have installed have you considered remote-head units?

Eg this in the Uniden range

or this in the GME range
