I've bought myself a new head unit (car stereo) for the Forrie. Finding power was easy- but does anyone have a speaker wiring chart which tells you which speaker goes where and which is -ve and which is +ve? Car is an MY04.

Speaker and power wires all go through the one connector. The Pioneer unit has individual wires. I found one the internet, but it lists common earths for left and right hand speakers. It's been years since I've installed car radios and I have forgotten too much!

The one I found does not have the same coloured wiring as my car. Back to square 1

no, unfortunately

Buy yourself an adapter harness. It's well worth the cost and saves the headache of trying to sort wires.

Just dug out the bit of paper from when I first did mine back in 2006. Copied below verbatim. From memory, I think I had to test and trace all these manually, and the first colour is the body colour of the wire, second colour is the colour of the stripe. Pretty sure (;)) this is accurate:

black - negative
blue/brown - positive
yellow/green - accessories on
purple - lights on
white/red - rear left positive
blue/yellow - rear right positive
red/white - rear right negative
white/black - front right negative
blue - front right positive
green - front left negative
brown/white - front left positive
red/black - rear left negative
blue/white - ? *
black/yellow - ?

*This might be power or switch signal to the RF amplifier for the window-mounted antenna, but no guarantees on this (or any of it for that matter!)

Good luck with the install Tony. I certainly prefer the sound of my Clarion over the original deck. https://offroadsubarus.com/showthread.php?t=975

Thanks Simon, that was a great help. Everything I found on the web was wrong, even though it listed speaker wiring for almost every model Subaru by model and year. So, I've got a bit of soldering to do, but at least it will be working this weekend. I'm doing it in such a way that should I sell the car, the original unit will go back in without issue. I ended up getting a Kenwood head unit with blue tooth and USB input. It was brand new but last years model, so I got it a fair bit cheaper.
